I don't think Vic Park market is an anything any more is it?
I would go to the top of the sky tower and if he is adventurous then perhaps pre book a walk around the perimeter with a safety harness etc....
Day trip to Waiheke island.
Have a look at the skate park at Victoria Park - if he likes that sort of thing.
Britomart area is great for cafes, retail and people watching.
You can hire bikes and go around the waterfront to Mission Bay and Kohimarama.
I guess weather though will be your guide and it has been so wet and is expected to continue that way.

I just looked up the Victoria Park Markets on TripAdvisor and they have had a refurbishment and are open - but the reviews don't sound that promising unfortunately
Piha is a lovely beach to visit, and the Waitakeres. There is also the Bridge Harbour Climb, along with Sky Tower and Bungee as Helen mentioned.
If you want to venture north to Silverdale, there is Snow Planet. Neither of us ski,but if we are up that way, we will call in to sit in the cafe (no entry charge if not using the snow), watch the skiers and snowboarders whilst we have a coffee. Love the toilets there and they are worth checking out
Then there is the Museum, Auckland Zoo and Kelly Tarlton's is interesting, if you haven't been before.

Helen, I have actually taken panoramic photos in there (I was the only person using them thank goodness!). The Mens are the same. When we took George's sister and bro-in-law (visiting from Romania) there in January, they couldn't understand why we told them they had to go to the toilet
I love the ski village feel as well as the dinky low toilets

I would have said the options already mentioned but a few others are
Walk up Mt Eden (Volcano crater - easy walk) - I'm always in awe of this place and I walk up here every day! and its FREE!
What about Sailing in the harbour on an Americas Cup Yacht?
Walk up Rangitoto Island?
Trip on the ferry over to Devonport
Maritime Museum (Viaduct)
Ferry and Lunch to Riverhead Tavern
Muriwai to see the Gannet Colony (then Lunch at Hallertaus)
All dependent on whether you have a car....but definitely a trip up the SKy Tower - its supposed to be brilliant weather so the views will be amazing
ENJOY!

Thanks for your help and ideas. We had to fit as much in to 2 days as possible. Next time we're in Auckland I think at least a week is required.
We took our "Auckland-virgin" to Dress-Smart in Onehunga and he was fascinated by the multicuturalness (not sure that's a word). We also went bowling at Metrolanes with some other young Aucklanders, then walked down Queen Street and along the waterfront at night. 4 of the teenagers hired a trike and went for a ride - the driver was hilarious. We thought about Sky Tower as we were right there but the kids were more interested in the cars. The highlight of the trip seemed to be all the flash cars boosting up and down the main street....... we have a few car mad teenagers.
We also walked from Mission Bay around to the next bay and back the next night, again checking out the flash cars.
