We have been saying for a while now that we should replace our mattress - while looking for something else in the files I came across the sales docket for our flexi slat-bed and mattress. Ahem...it is 25 years old! Brand is Design Mobel.

The specialist bed store we purchased it from is no longer in business, however I have found the brand at another store.

Can anyone advise if they are still the same quality? Or perhaps a super duper brand that will give as much comfort.

Would appreciate your input.

Ali, we are in exactly the same position. No other queen size mattresses will fit those beds because they are an odd size. Perhaps we need to get them made but. Oh the cost.

Chris, Design Mobel was bought out by Sleepyhead. They sell through BedsRus.

Ali, I made a mistake. Ours is Restwood. It was bought many years ago as a Queen bed and we opted for two mattresses, one fim and one soft on the same bed. The company was sold years ago and one standard Queen size or two standard singles don’t fit.

Chris, it appears that Restwood was bought out by Design Mobel so perhaps Ali's comments are still relevant and Sleepyhead might be able to help you.

Thank you so much, Barbara Anne. It’s definitely worth exploring. It’s a nice looking bed and the slats are fine, but after 20 plus years a new mattress would be great. We have learned a lesson. Don’t buy a bed that is not of a standard size. It never occurred to us that there would be a problem in the future.

We have a Design Mobel slat bed and mattress, not far off your vintage and still going strong and likely to see us out. We had an older couple housesit for us some years back and they said it was the first bed they'd slept in that cured their back aches. I'd definitely look at Design Mobel again if we were replacing any mattresses. We originally got ours through Bedpost and they still sell Design Mobel. We found Bedpost a good company to deal with. Funny you should say your set will see you out. Our mattress is not too bad, but I notice a lot of dust under the bed which makes me think the mattress is breaking down a bit.

It took us ages to get used to it when we first bought it, but like your friends say, what a beautiful sleep you get on a slat bed. And the mattress stays flat and firm right to the edge.

Ali, would the usual Queen mattress size fit your bed?
