I suppose back in the day these were 'handy hints' .

It must be easier to separate an egg using the two halves of the shell.

I've loved 'handy hints' like this all my life. When I was a kid I used to earn money by gleaning hints from my Dad's old Popular Mechanics magazines and mailing them in to the Handy Hints column in Woman's Weekly because they used to pay for every hint that got printed.

I particularly like the food hacks that you come across on various websites.

Wasn't there a thread elsewhere on the forum about peeling eggs - and according to the article you posted jj, it says
Add one teaspoon of baking soda when boiling an egg. It makes the eggshell come off effortlessly.

I always do my hard boiled eggs in the oven now, but this would be a good tip for soft boiled eggs
