We have a smallish fridge and for a while now I thought I must switch it off, empty it entirely and have a sort out.
That happened last night. I don’t know what it is about me and keeping things....I found a jar of stem ginger in syrup dated 2006. There were various gifts of pickles and jams that the labels had fallen off. I even found 2 bottles with my own labels saying Pickling Vinegar - obviously left over from gherkin jars!
All cleaned, sorted, put back tidily- and a big pile of jars gone to the appropriate place.
Aaaah.....bring on the Tiramisu which can rest comfortably on it's own shelf.

Fridge management depends on personality I think. I have a relative who has a fridge somewhat like yours. When you open it, every shelf is jampacked to the outer edge and the contents probably haven't been sorted through for 10 years. It's very difficult to put anything new in there. That relative has a very laissez-faire attitude. I have another relative who has an almost empty fridge, although the contents are not necessarily well-looked after - a small block of drying out cheese, some deli meat slices that should have been thrown out three days ago, an opened can of sardines..... That relative has a personality compulsion to get rid of everything that isn't currently useful and they constantly feel compelled to get rid of something - their house matches their fridge.
My fridge is pretty much the opposite to yours. Everything's up-to-date, I know where everything is, there are great empty spaces weekly. I don't like wasting food so there are no vegetables, for instance, languishing anywhere - they all get eaten and anything that goes off quickly or has a use by date (e.g meat, dairy products) makes a short and timely entrance and exit. You could say my fridge is a well-managed weekly food office.

Well actually I did....mainly because I couldn't remember what recipe I used to make that needed it.
My tastes have changed in the last few years and recently binned a heap of recipes ripped out of magazines or photocopied, that used to be favourites, but now I wouldn’t enjoy them at all
When we were in the church we did a lot of group entertaining but now just one or two couples at a time.
