I am the proud owner of an 8 year old Boxer, named Baxter.
He is such a beautiful boy and such a character.
Since the death of my partner, Baxter has made me feel safe and protected.
Well who would argue with, about 40kg of Boxer?
His latest "steal" was a Gluten Free Pizza I had made, from a plate on the kitchen bench last Saturday.
I returned to the kitchen to put it in the fridge and thought I was going mad, so checked the fridge incase I had already put it there.
No, .....GONE!
I called Baxter in a normal tone, but he didn't come for some time
Then he appeared and sat.
I asked him "What happened" and his eyes told me the story. He looked everywhere except at me. So I asked did he eat the Pizza, and again eyes wandered. Then I asked, did it taste nice and he licked his slobbery lips!!!
I burst out laughing.......
I so love my Dog!

That is absolutely gorgeous Raewyn. Baxter sounds quite the character.
Our Minnie will be 16 in October - she is an odd canine in that she has never stolen anything foodwise and isn't a guts when it comes to food. She eats only when she is hungry and often leaves food behind, and then may come back to it later. We always have dry on hand as an extra, and her dry food can stay in the bowl for a month or more, as she just takes a few when she wants them. But she has George wrapped around her little paw... when he gets home from work or actually from anywhere, or walking her she does a little dance and a few woofs telling him to get her treats. And you know when she classes a food item or treats as special,as she runs under the coffee table in the lounge and eats them there - I think she thinks she is hidden, but it is open plus glass topped. We can be watching TV and she does this throaty noise which isn't even a growl, which means she wants to go outside. But if I hop up to let her out, she won't go. She gives George the evils and he has to get up and open the door for her.
Agreed that just like you, we love our dog. And with her age getting apprehensive as to when the horrible day will come that she passes.

I have never understood why people don't think animals understand us. They do a better job of understanding than we do of them.We underestimate the power of their love.My little rescue cat gives me always the first and usually, the last laugh of my day. She's always there when my car drives into the garage, gives me the biggest loveliest welcome of letting me know how happy she is I'm home.I know that whatever happens I have to hang on for her.

That is an adorable story Raewyn.
We had a Rhodesion Ridgeback called Zena and she stole a 2kg piece of cooked roast beef off the kitchen bench without any of us knowing. We were sitting at the dining table and heard a clang in the kitchen, went to investigate and saw nothing. Later I asked my husband where he put the beef as I couldn't see it in the warming drawer. Turns out, she ate the lot and from then on was known as the roast beef bandit

Thank you for your stories. Its so good to have a laugh.
One Christmas Eve, the same Baxter helped himself to a giant sized piece out of a 9 egg pavlova I had wating for a friend to collect, for her family xmas.
Consequently there was a mad dash to make another.......
He has stolen lots of things, normally if I push them back on the bench he cant get to them, but sometimes I forget.
I do love him.......... most of the time.

My last girl, a curly coated retriever, was so trustworthy around food. I could put her in the back of the car with the groceries and know she wouldn't touch anything, and anything left on the bench was safe. Sadly she developed lymphoma and was given prednisone, which made her very hungry. I made a chocolate cake for my daughter's party and left it on the bench to cool while I got on with party preparation, came back and the entire chocolate cake had disappeared! Her one indiscretion, bless her, a week before she died! (I had a manic trip into town to buy a cake that year, the only time my kids had a bought birthday cake!). Current curly is also pretty trustworthy around food, but I'd never leave her in the car, she eats the seatbelts! Love her to bits though, she'll be 14 in July, and still in pretty good shape so I hope to have her for a good long while yet.
