My dad has geriatric diabetes and has long been told to reduce his sugar. Not knowing anything about it I just thought well at 85 surely it is up to him if he wants to eat sugar or not. Then the Geriatrician pointed out to me that it isn't about improving his cardiovascular system or aiding longevity but all about quality of life.
Dad was urinating all the time and often not making it to the loo. He also had other symptoms.
We have reduced his sugar intake, in terms of ginger beer (his treat instead of alcohol), cut out jam, biscuits etc... and the turn around has been instant.
He is no longer having any urinary issues which means he is also sleeping through the night.
I feel guilty that I didn't act sooner but just didn't know what the difference was going to be.

The Bundaberg Diet Ginger Beer does have some sugar in it though it is much lower than their ordinary Ginger Beer. I drink the Schweppes Light Ginger Beer which has no sugar though obviously artifical sweeteners.
As I don't drink tea or coffee (or any hot drinks), I drink Coke No Sugar but I drink the Ginger Beer in the evening as it doesn't keep me awake like the Coke does when I want to sleep.
