Thank you Carolyn. I had found the UK website and it mentioned every country other than New Zealand except in it's list of countries where it is available. I have Netflix but it's got very little British content for NZ'ers, and I use TV On Demand quite a bit, but there's still that gap - so many good British programmes just don't make it to NZ. For $8 a month, I'll give it a go and see what it's like. I think we get a free week's trial, too.
I had to laugh at the first line of their description: "Acorn TV was launched on 11 December 2108 in New Zealand." They must really believe they're ahead of the times!

Lorna, have you looked into Amazon prime video at all? I find it has a very different style of catalog than Netflix. You can also subscribe to further channels within prime video, and one of those is BritBox which is all the British shows this great could ever desire.

Thank you Jenna, but Amazon Prime Video doesn't look as if it has the sort of programmes I like; From what I have read, I would need to use a VPN to access BritBox and pay another subscription. I will be keeping Netflix because it does have the occasional excellent film or series, enough for me not to discard it just yet.
I've sent a query to Acorn to see if I can receive it straight onto my LG Smart TV that has a web-browser and I'm waiting to hear from them. If not, I will buy a Chromecast and access it on my TV through my laptop. I've been browsing their offerings and they've got so much there that I would watch and enjoy.
