I realise that it is only those in Auckland who are under Level 3 and lets hope it stays that way as gosh you do wonder how much of a hammering some businesses/people can take.
While we had hoped that we would avoid this situation I guess it was inevitable with something as contagious as Covid.
It does feel pretty gloomy around here so fingers crossed it gets quickly contained.

As much as I hoped this wouldn't happen, but being honest I think that three days in Level 3 in Auckland is a precurser for a longer period under Level 3 and maybe other regions as well. I don't think the economy can cope with Level 4 again let alone Level 3. I'm hoping this won't become a reality but won't hold my breath.

Thinking of you all, hoping that we won't have to go to higher levels, but clamping down quickly really is the best way to preserve the economy.
Going forward with the results of unconstrained community transmission would mean ongoing support for many thousands of permanently disabled people as a result of the virus (many "recovered" people have suffered strokes, brain damage, kidney and liver damage etc, and will never recover from these), as well as a huge burden of grief in the community, which would take it's own toll.

I am glad action to find and contain the infections in Auckland was taken swiftly. I read this morning with concern though that Aucklanders are flying down to Queenstown to take their holidays down here. I personally would be happier if they got themselves tested before taking that flight out of concern for themselves and all of us. Like most, I am disappointed the virus reared its ugly head again.
Edited to say that although I read the article this morning the Aucklanders might have arrived yesterday. As I understand it, only essential travel is allowed now.

Sorry this had to happen but I am not surprised. I try to be optimistic but when we know how those affected went unknowingly about their daily lives it would be amazing if it hasn't spread further.
Masks, sanitiser, hand washing, not coughing or sneezing without taking precautions are words not being said just for attention.
As with Dawn, I also think our economy is in a precarious state.

Can't say I'm surprised to be back in lockdown again, and I'm expecting it to be longer than three days, but I still think it's the best thing both for the economy and our health. The post-virus health problems people have been suffering overseas have been really alarming. I really feel for all the Auckland cafes and restaurants who only had a few hours' notice though - what did they do with all that food? I'll be going out of my way to order delivery food to keep them going.

Oh poor George, Irene I have heard of quite a few similar stories.
I am disappointed at the number of angry people at present who are making this a political argument.
I realise that people are suffering but if we allow the virus to take hold then we will be suffering a lot more than we are now.
Sweden left things to run their course and therefore have had 5770 deaths. I don't think we want that.

I totally agree Helen, it’s not survival of the fittest. There appears to be plenty of evidence that a sizeable number of recovered people suffer serious after effects after getting better from this viral illness. I feel for the business owners and their staff who are faced with loss of income but the repercussions of not containing the virus are dire whether we prioritise the economy or health. Personally, I agree with the path taken. We will get through this again, learning more as we go. Stressful times for all of us.

Yes this is a blow for our country. I agree with the swift action. If we maintain our health we can re-build the economy. I had the test about 2 1/2 weeks ago as had some symptoms and received a general email from my health centre saying MOH recommending more testing for anyone with symptoms. The test was up both nostrils and did not hurt and did not feel invasive, but it did take 4 days for negative result to come back, I self isolated from the first symptom until test came back for the sake of my family and community. At that stage MOH was having only a 50% hit rate for people to get tested, not helped by media showing people being tested and looking uncomfortable. Stay safe Food Lovers.
