Chris, I can't find anywhere to click on to keep you logged in, either. The only possible place I can think of is if you click on the log out option near the top of the page, a bit below the search bar. It might then show log-in and the option to tick 'stay logged in'. However, I'm not willing to click log-out myself, as I had a lot of problems some time ago getting logged back in again. Maybe Helen knows where to find the 'stay logged in' option.

Chris, it sounds like the logging out might be caused by your Private Browser settings. I'm on android rather than Apple devices, so I don't know my way around Apple at all but this Q&A [discussions.apple.com] says:
If the tab bar is dark, then it sounds like you've enabled Private Browsing, in which cookies are not saved, etc. Tap the overlapping boxes icon in the upper right of the Safari screen, then tap on Private, which should have a white background, to turn the background black. Then tap Done, and you're back to normal.
If you don't have or can't find the above options, do you know where to go to get into your browsing/cookies settings? You want some cookies to be enabled, e.g. for the Foodlovers website and any other website you don't want to be automatically logged out of all the time. If you say no to all cookies, this can causes the automatic logging out.

Lorna, I logged out on my MacBook but there was no option I could see for staying logged in. Wise decision of yours not to risk it. J1, thanks for your research. Private browsing was not enabled but I need to look up how to enable certain cookies. It’s no hardship logging in but I was puzzled and thought there must be an easy way to stay logged in. Next time we need some computer help I’ll ask the technician. Again, many thanks to you both.

That's generally true but if you clear all your cookies, you might find you're logged out of websites the next time you visit them. A person replying on this website [superuser.com] puts it well by saying:
"The only reason I could think of is if you (inadvertently) cleared your recent browser history, in particular the active logins (perhaps cookies as well). By deleting that you would delete the list of websites you are currently logged into, including your access details (data that your browser stores locally in your computer). Therefore you will have to log back in as soon as a particular website needs your credentials again."

You are onto something, J1. Just opened Foodlovers on my Macbook and new iPad and no log in required. My husband must have 'tidied' things up for me and cleared cookies etc. I hardly ever bother and I don't think cache/cookies have ever been dealt with on my old iPad and that's probably why I don't need to log in. Thank you, J1. Whatever happened, it's working and in future I will know why.
