I have been given a $150 voucher to use at one of the following restaurants. I haven't eaten out in Auckland for years so don't know Auckland restaurants at all. Which would you choose?

Cafe Hanoi, Britomart
Depot, Federal Street
Euro, Princes Wharf
Huami, Federal Street
Lobster & Tap, Jellicoe Street
Mr Morris, Britomart,

I have been to Al Brown's Depot in Federal Street several times - great food in a relaxed, informal 'rustic' environment, The menu focuses on sharing plates and 'grazing' rather than entree, mains etc. Up until recently you couldn't book but I see they have started taking bookings
I was at Soul down at the Viaduct last night - more formal and a more structured menu, but excellent food and friendly and attentive service. I was a bit cross having to pay a credit card surcharge - note to self - use your eftpos card next time.
Although I have never been there, I see that The Grove has recently been judged the No 1 fine dining establishment in NZ and 15th in the world.
Hope this helps - let us know what you decide.
Regards,
Barbara Anne

Everyone is raving about Mr Morris, I haven't been but apparently it is very good. Jessie Mulligan gave it a perfect score I think.
Personally I would take out the French Cafe as I don't like fine dining. I was there a couple of months ago as invited and don't think I will go again unless we need to.
The Grove rated number 1 on Trip Advisor....
I would possibly pick between Ahi and Mr Morris or maybe Alma.

Lynette, I hadn't realised that you were booking for tonight, otherwise I would have mentioned that restaurant bookings are very tight in Auckland at the moment at what I would regard as 'peak' dinner time 6.00pm -7.30pm. I had just been through that exercise myself when we booked at Soul the other night - there were 8 of us so that made it even more tricky. I put it down to the fact that it is winter when many people traditionally head overseas to warmer climes, but are instead travelling around NZ and spending their money 'at home.' Add to that the fact that it is school holidays.
Something else I noticed was that many restaurants specify that bookings are for 1.5 - 2hrs I hadn't come across that before and it doesn't sit well with me but I guess it is a sign of the times where many restaurants are hurting and want to roll the tables over as many times as possible.
That does not appear to be the case at Ostro (nor was it at Soul) - have a lovely evening.
Regards,
Barbara
