Hi Sandra! I gave it up as I am ' useless' at grooming! Really, I got ripped to shreds as the cats just knew I was a soft touch. Plus, I hated giving the kittens up. Would loved to have kept them all. Hubby was not amused. Then I had them all in the house. Cat hair in and over everything.
Nope. I finally kept just two, Julio ( a chinchilla) and Lace ( blue/cream). Now I have none. And thats OK . I think.?:-( lol

This should probably have been in the non food chat . Sorry all!

Having just found this site today I thought I might as well stay abit longer and add my little bit. Grew up in Bay View, Napier ~ left for the BIG city (Auckland) in late teens and from there to the UK for four years. Had first daughter in the UK and on return to NZ '74 lived in Howick until 1998 when my partner and I moved to Waiheke Island.
I have two daughters and two grand-daughters. Used to have a couple of dogs and cats, cats and more cats but as they died off I have been VERY strong and have not taken on any more though do have two (different - the others are long gone) wonderful dogs, Layla, a Bull Mastiff/Boxer/Ridgeback X (8 years old today) and Sabre (was my daughter's dog..... the second one I have taken on over the years) he's a Bull Mastiff something X and is nearly 10.
My partner is a builder ~ plenty of work on Waiheke. I spend most of my time in the garden..... and now on this site...... and doing things around the house though if the perfect part time job arose I would seriously consider it.
On Waiheke we are dependent on the rain as we are on tank water unless we get really desperate then we pay for it to be trucked in ~ we try to avoid that - only washing dishes every second day at the mo ~ no wonder I have so much extra time to browse the net.
We water the garden and citrus from an extra two tanks we have hooked up to take water from the laundry and the bath (shower mainly) otherwise our garden would be very scant indeed.
I joined the wonderful www.oldfriends.co.nz site a few years ago and have met up with many old friends and relations. It's a great site (as is this).
Since my partner had a heart attack earlier this year I have found the heart foundation's cook books online - some are Australian but they're still very good :-))))))) and such yummy desserts. That had to be the main criteria for purchasing the book - right - RIGHT.
That's it, I quit.... I'm moving on... TTFN :-)))))))

HI Mnemosyne,
Waiheke island. That definately sounds interesting.
I too am a dog person. We lost our 11 year 7 month old boxer two months ago yesterday . We have a nutcase poodle and a new additon from a broken marriage who is pappion, terrier, poodle. Good natured but has not as yet been fixed Arggghh!!!! Never mind it will be well worth the vets bill.
I would love to know more about life on Waiheke Island. Does it have a store, how many people live there etc... but only if you get a chance of course.
Well everyone I'm off home to bed, night night
Kind Regards
lisa

Hi,
I'm Crystal. Guess I am what you call a Geor-Zealander.
I have lived in Hastings for 2 years with my husband (a Kiwi )and step daughter. I have one adult son in the States.
Orginally from Georgia, I fell in love with this beautiful country right from the start and post pictures of sights and write stories on seveal forums I moderate for, to show NZ to the world and encourage tourism so they too can enjoy this place.
Although I have had a hard time adjusting to the culture, people, food and differences in the two countries, I enjoy learning new methods of cooking and incorparating the two worlds together to make new dishes.
My husband and I own our own business and work from home. We enjoy hunting, fishing and camping together.
Gardening is also a passion of mine and I have had to learn a world of different named flowers that I am not accustomed to?:-( But thats fun trying.
My husband and myself love gardening together and constantly taking out and changing it around. We currently are putting in another driveway and gardens in the front and adding a new stream and another rock water fall feature in the back in our spare time.
I am glad I stumbled upon this forum. I love visiting and reading the forums every night and learning something from each and everyone of you.
Thank you ladies

The Unknown Cook
I am the person watching while your jam sets
I am the one whose conscience quivers everytime someone cooks food with parents
I am in India watching marsala made from scratch
Billie, Hannah & Daisy (& sometimes Jade) call me mother
Simon calls me
Italy calls me
I am in every cook book every day
I am at every dinner party along with Elizabeth David, MFK Fisher & Julia Child & Brillat Savarin
I still dream of cooking in the tropics, in the spicy, scent laden heat
I am the person who had an orchard full of fruit, and walked away
I am the person who buys food because it smells good
I am always watching the seasons for new bounty, new inspiration
I am still searching for Digby Law
I still can’t figure out whether I cook to eat or eat so I can cook……
I wake up then think Kids?, Kitchen?, Garden?, Kids?, Kitchen?, Garden?, Kids?
I am there when you wake up, and break the fast, I’m there when you’re hunting or gathering and searching for fulfilment through food
I’m there when the sun sets on you, sustained & sleeping.
