Lucky you Jenny, we had droves!!!!!! Our dog went balistic (sp?) each time a gang of them came to the door. Fortunately I was sitting in a spot so I could view who was coming to the door. We didn't answer and some were very persistant. Hope these cherubs have sore knuckles from knocking this morning. Admitedly there was an older person or parent with most groups, and thankfully none after dark. Didn't see a decent costume out of the whole lot, but all had bags for any goodies they managed to get.
Then after dark I had to bring our woofer in because of the fireworks. Petrified she was, poor thing. Once the banging had stopped, I had a devils own job getting her out to her bed in the porch. Am not looking forward to this next week!!!!!

Well, we had a lovely Hallowe'en this evening. I had strung electric pumpkin lights across, lit pumpkins in all my windows, and had giant spiders & skeletons on display!! We had about 48 little visitors, all beautifully dressed up, along with their parents, who also entered into the spirit of the thing, and I soon gave out all the little goodie bags I'd prepared earlier.
Our clocks went back last night, so it was spookily dark enough to light up at about five, and at eight, I turned off all the decorations and we weren't bothered at all after that. All the children were extremely polite and well mannered, and it was a pleasure to see their little faces.
I know I'm in the minority here, but it WAS fun!

We were visiting with friends in a younger area than we live and we were constantly pestered by groups of kids from about 5.30 onward. Still going at 8.30 which I thought was a bit rich for kids who are meant to be going to school today.!!!!! Pity the teachers. Some of the little kids were dressed up but the older kids just expected their lollies and they were politely told to b.....r off. I dont believe kids of 11-15 should expect to be given sweets as of right

My family had a stressful time last night while I was a work.
Our 13yr old Lab has just had major surgery on her throat - like $925 worth major and we have been instructed not to let her bark for 10 days or the internal stithces may burst and she will literally heamorrhage to death.
Well................. it was "that time of the Year" wasn't it when you suddenly have complete strangers knocking on your door. And what does any good guard dog do - yes, bark..................
My son ended up putting up a sign on the door........... that didn't work either - so they had to go on guard and stop them before they "
knocked the knocker"
I hate this time of the year anyway - but last night my dog's life was literally threatened.
I really resent cars that we have never seen before that just arrive in our area with heaps of kids we have never seen before that go door to door.
Thank goodness my sons are older.

31st October is a bit grim here now, even in a comparatively small town
(pop around 30,000 - suppose not really that small!). The problem in the UK of "violence/begging" on 31st October has escalated in recent years and I guess NZ will not be far behind.
Our local paper included a poster which advised no trick or treating at this house and I put it in my 88 year old mother's window and she was safe. In the past she has been frightened by people knocking and calling out after dark.
However, our front door was banged loudly at around 7pm and my husband called out 'go away' and I thought the door would be broken down! He went outside and there were about 10 big lads and I was quite anxious, especially given their language (!) but they eventually went away. More followed and I think we were approached by about 4 or 5 groups. Then we put a notice on the door and it stopped.
The local paper today reports eggs and tomatoes being thrown at houses, and fireworks put through letterboxes - the police are approaching schools to try to stop this happening again.
I used to provide sweets etc, but now I find the whole thing intimidating and I do not want to answer the door to strangers any more!
