Cat food! November 27, 2004 11:06AM |
I have always put the cat food into a plastic container when opening a new can and found (when Holly was a kitten) she would eat it all. If left in the tin she refused after the 2nd feed. I suppose it stands to reason that we humans don't leave our food in the can in the fridge. I have since learnt about the dangers of open cans and the damage that can be caused to food. So the damm cat was on to it before me!!!!!! Huh, I always thought she was one jump ahead of me. Even now at almost 18, although she has feline alzheimers, can, on a good day be giving me a run for my money. Some say cats are stupid, well I think it was a silly person that said that!!
My old fluff ball will only eat two brands of food. Would starve to death if I insisted on any others. Occassionally has some fresh mince and adores a piece of fish minus the batter, when we have f + chips.

Our cat has his own inbuilt alarm clock. At exactly 5pm each night he will start meowing for his dinner. Also if hubby is still at work at 5pm, which is quite often, then he will meow to him when he comes home, and pretend he needs to be feed again. Hubby is the big softie, and often will give him a bit more.
Our 13yr old cat used to have a brother and they were the best of mates. However, just over a year ago his brother was squashed by the neighbour's mate's car. Its not until you lose something, that you actually realise how much of bond you've formed with these pets.
Linda.

I like to think my cat and I have an equal relationship, neither rules the other. But of course I'm wrong. Who goes out and only comes home at his leisure no matter how much I call him? Who sits in one position for ages so that cat isn't disturbed while asleep on my lap? Who panders to his finicky eating habits? But all this is worth the happiness one little cat can bring. The companionship and affection shared is one of life's great pleasures.

Our house revolves around our two cats, one puppy, one dove and six fish....and of course, our girls (the cats) wouldn't dream of eating the same food. They even eat different cat bikkies! I totally love it and nothing would ever convince me to have it any other way.
I think it's totally hillarious that both my hubby and I will sit in one position for hours until one of the cats who is gracing us with her presence on our knees, decides to move, and the way we creep around the house sometimes just so the puppy gets a good snooze is ridiculous! People must think we are totally mad at times.
I'm absolutely convinced that me and one of my girls have a psychic link - if I haven't seen her for a while I only have to think of her and she appears with a look of "here I am" on her beautiful face.
We are very grateful to have our fur babies in our lives.
Hope.

Our cats (15yrs & 11 months) won`t eat house brands of biscuits, even if I try and mix it in with the better food guess whats left in their bowls. But I have found that the purina one is definately better for the cats, our 15 yr old even though she is a moggie is very persian, and her coat is in such good condition after changng to this brand, well worth the extra money.

That's an interesting comment Hope - I feel I have the same psychic connection with our 11 year old Siamese cat.
When she's outdoors I don't verbally call her in - I just 'think' that it's time she came home - and within minutes we hear the cat door as she races inside.
And I am with the Purina cat bikkies - my cat had started to vomit her dry food not long after she had eaten it so I changed to Purina One "Senior protection formula" in small amounts and her tummy troubles have disappeared.
By the way - how many others have cats with no teeth?? Mine had to have all hers removed some five years ago to my dismay. The vet assured me that she would eat normally - including biscuits, - within a couple of weeks and so it proved - but this could explain her reaction to some biscuits - I wondered if the Purina are a little smaller and softer in texture?
I should add that when she gives an affectionate nip around the ankles it hurts as though she has teeth - just a little bit more 'sloppy'!!:p

yes our house too is run by 2 cats. like Lorna if the cat is asleep on my lap I wont move, but does she worry about waking us up at the window to come in, I think Ill ignore her but its no good, she will keep on till we get up. How many times have I waited all day to strip the bed because one of them has been asleep on it, and dont talk about how fussy eating!!! No it is not the cats that are stupid Lynda

Lynda, I've always had a cat door for my little lovelies. Only problem is, on wet nights it's a bit of a shock to have a sodden ball of fur push its way under the blankets to snuggle into the small of my back. Sleeping 'au naturelle', believe me, it's a shock!! As far as his food tastes go, he will only eat Jimbo fresh veal (the most expensive choice in that brand, of course) and Go Cat biscuits. The occasional bite of fish might be tried, but don't bother offering chicken, lamb or beef; it's sniffed and the look I'm given is enough to sour the milk in the fridge. Incidentally, he has never tasted cow's milk. He's a water drinking cat. Picture of health with dark, shiny coat, big yellow eyes, and very slim but powerfully muscular.

Lorna I also have a cat door but I only allow them to go out. One cat is a good hunter and likes to show what she's caught. I reached my limit when she brought in a live rat, nearly as big as her and was chasing round the bedroom at 5-30 one morning, mice I will tolerate but this was the end. My husband ended up shooting it, the rat that is.We live in a rural area and rabbits are another popular catch. MERRY XMAS.

Oh Lynda, I remember my partner one night, attempting to shoot a possum from the laundry window. Our security light was on, but after the possum moved out of range, and Les was poised with the gun, the blinken light switched off, and he fired anyway, and muttering!!!!! Missed the possum and slug ricocheted off the shed and into the door at the back of the car port!!!!
Lucky your man was a better shot............or it could have been holes all round your bedroom walls!!!!!!:}
Thanks for making me smile!!!!
