Pain while ovulating
December 10, 2004 09:52AM
Hi all, I get a very intense pain in my lower stomach area while I am ovulating, it is much the same as period pain, I have been getting it for a about 5 months, I am in my early 30`s and have 3 young children.
I am hopeless at going to the Dr`s but will be making a appointment next week, but if anyone has any thoughts I would love to know.
Thankssmiling smiley

Hi Toni! You are doing the right thing by going to see your Doctor. Sometimes a Fallopian tube can get blocked and ova have a hard time navigating! These things can be easily fixed. Another problem can come from conditions such as Salpingitis, where an infection has been present.
Dont worry, just go see the Doc and you will be fine in no time at all.

Yeah I agree going to the doctor is probably your best bet although taking supplements from the Health Shop seem to work for me too. Talk to them and maybe ask them what your options are.

I had similar problems a few years ago, at a similar age too. Went to our GP, as my periods were almost non-existant too. Very light, and only lasting 1-2 days, but heaps of pain for two to three weeks before.

Our GP (a male) told me it was stress related. We had just finished building a new house. A few months later it hadn't improved and I was told it was early menopause, which I accepted. After a few more months, a friend suggested I go for a second opinion, which I did. Went to a lovely lady who specialises in women's health. She did lots of tests, and was surprised our GP hadn't done any of them. Turns out it was a hormonal imbalance and gave me Pro-Vera tablets. I was taking them every day. Now my body is back into sync, so I just take them as required.

Went back a few weeks ago, to get some more and she commented that that she sees quite a few women, who are in agony, before seeing her. As Mothers we tend to put our families first, but sometimes you just have to make time to get yourself checked out too.

So my advice is definately get it checked out, and if necessary get a second (or maybe even a third) opinion.

Hi Toni
How I do feel for you. I too, at around your age had the very same thing. The pain sometimes was so bad I was crawling around on the floor. My Doctor and Gyno (sp?) told me it was peritonitis as when I ovulated there was excess fluid which "spilt over" to places it wasn't meant to go, hence the peritonitis. I put up with it for years and year, finally having a hysterectomy at 38 and have had no problems since and never regretted having the procedure. My overies were left intact.
Prior to that I'd had an ectopic pregnancy, at 31 yoa, but it was never suggested to me it was anything to do with my other tube maybe being blocked and after having the surgery I was told there was no disease in my other tube and no disease in the ovaries hence everything was left intact. I did have my cervix removed, my choice and in those days it was considered normal when having a hysterectomy ~ not sure about nowadays ~ things change so much.
Pains would normally be either to the left or right hand side of lower abdomen. I do hope you get things sorted and that you have a Doctor who understands.
I would certainly advise you to see your Doctor though.

I have always had a stitch like pain while ovulating. I know exactly what side I am ovulating from and although it is not terribly severe it is uncomfortable and painful enough that I can wake in the night from it.
I can't remember when it started but I have experienced it for as long as I can remember. I do remember asking a GP about it when I was in my early 20's.

HI

The November issue of the Littlies mag has an article all about this...see if you can get your hands on a copy...they are free at early childhood centres and libraries etc etc and also have a website which may have the article on it. All the best!!

Thanks all for your comments, it is so interesting, the pain stopped a couple of days ago and I will be off to the Dr.
I do get the Littlies and read the article very imformative.
The things us females go thru, the males do get let off.
Thanks again
