Instead of crackers, I'm doing a little Santa sack for each table setting (I bought up some cute little felt sacks for the purpose). Haven't finished them yet but I've made a start and have got body butter, citronella incense and a scented candle for the ladies and for the men, a pair of sports socks, a small jar of homemade chutney and a bar of oatmeal soap. Will also put in some truffles, shortbread or something sweet. Some of these may work for the crackers if you can find miniatures, e.g. little soaps, moisturisers, candles, incense cones, etc.

I don't do presents in the crackers anymore for this very reason.
For the last few years though that I was doing it - I put a piece of paper with a number in the cracker and had the present - with corresponding number on it - in a big decorated cane basket and people could retrieve their present from there.
I made sure they were appropriate for either sex - but it was such a relief not having to look for the size of something. It actually gave me much more scope - and often worked out cheaper.
Who needs the extra hassle of trying to find "the right size" - and often end up buying some "just because you had to" - rather than it being a good present.
Good luck anyway - hope you are as pleased with yours as I am mine.
Merry Xmas

This is the first year I havent made Christmas Crackers, and feel I am letting the side down, but really have run out of original ideas. In the past I have always included a chocolate, scratchie, joke or saying, crepe hat and then a gift, which have included pens, nail polish, little staplers, book marks, fridge magnets, key chain, little models cars or planes. Last year for something different from a joke or saying I included a line from a song, and everyone had to guess what the song was. Another nice little gift idea is a crystal one hangs from a window or for the ladies, Paua Shell rings are popular at the moment.
It would be helpful if toilet rolls were a bit fatter too!. ANyway, hope this helps and have a wonderful christmas day.

I thought the idea of sacks was a good one, but Emma said it was breaking with tradition - oh well!!!
Don't feel you have to use toilet rolls. I have rolled thin card around to get a tube shape to accommodate something a LITTLE larger. I also save kitchen rolls during the year, and some of them are a bit bigger.
Keep up the good ideas, thanks, Janet

A final note from me - Emma and I had a lovely time shopping this morning - started at 8.15 as Emma had to be at work at 10, so it was an early start for her :-o
We ended up getting scratchies, chocolates, jokes (off the internet), and a pressie each - nail files, lipsticks, sun block stick (like a lipstick), a teenage boy's "smelly" - designed to make him more attractive to the fairer sex, pate knives, a wee bottle of moisturiser, eye liner. We were so pleased with our selection, the crackers are a bit bigger (price wise) than usual.
Thanks for your suggestions, Janet
