I always wondered about the significance of boxing Day.

How did Boxing Day, a Canadian holiday, receive its name?
Boxing Day, the day after Christmas, gets its name from the old custom of giving. Employers would give their servants Christmas boxes made of earthenware. Inside the box, money was hidden and the servants would retrieve the money by smashing the box to tiny bits.
