Virus???
Posted by Linda
Antivirus Email Server has detected a virus in a message sent from your address (SYM:20488238601017446980)
Subject of the message: Re: Approved
Recipient of the message: Beverley Wawatai
The attachment "all_document.pif" was marked for Deletion for the following
reasons:
Virus W32.Netsky.D@mm was found.
Have been getting a few messages, like the one above. Have run our Virus scan which all comes back clear. Plus I've just done an update on virus definations.
Also have been to the Symantic site and ran the removal tool, which says no such virus found.
We never sent an email to this Beverley Wawatai and have never even heard of her.
Is this just spam, or could somebody be using our email address, without our knowledge??
Thanks.
Linda.

Do you have Adaware or Spy-bot programmes. Maybe you should go to Google, look these up and download them. Your computer can have viruses that Norton's or any other well know brand doesn't detect. These viruses don't actually harm your computer but they do use it as a proxy server. The above two programmes should get rid of them, if the problem still persists after you have run these, take it to your computer fix it man to run a scan.
Once you have the above two programmes you should really run them once or twice a week to keep your computer clean. Hope this helps.

Hi Linda,
No - you don't have the virus, but someone who has your e mail address in their address book has it. W32 spreads by the virus choosing an e mail address on the infected computer and using it to send on, therefore being tricky to trace.

We have ad-aware and hubby thinks I'm paranoid, as I run it every morning and also check for new updates, daily.
Today we had one thing in Ad-aware so I loaded Spy boot. That picked up 6 items, which I've now got rid of.
Also we don't use IE, but Mozilla Firefox instead. Hubby has had a lot of jobs helping people who have jetstream probs, and quite a few raved about it, so thought we'd give it a go. Supposedly it harder for viruses to slip through than IE.
In the past we've had problems with Outlook Express, that emails would delete, by themselves. Now using Microsoft Outlook, which I don't really like, but it seems to be working OK.
We're hoping to soon update our computer, as ours is nearly 8yrs old and although we've added extra ram, often runs slower than it should.
At my old job, we got a nasty virus which corrupted heaps of stuff. My ex boss, (brother in law) now has an antivirus programme. I was horrified that a business would run without one, and encouraged him to purchase one, but his reply was always that its just to support Bill Gates millionaire life style, which he was very anti and they've never had a virus, so its a waste of money. He's now eating his words.:/
Thanks everybody for your help and I'm releaved that we don't actually have a virus.

I got one of those letters from a unknown person last month.
After a lot of fretting, scanning and them researching I found out its a scam.
Below is a explaination explained to me of what they are after when you get one of those types of emails. Delete them don't answer them.

My question:
Thanks for all the imfo "T".
Our virus protection is on auto and up to date.
Curiously though,
I did recieve a spam letter where someone tried to send something using my addy, to a unknown persons address and it came back that it had a Netsky attachment and was a policy violation.
Since the scan showed no such virus.... I put it down to spam and deleted it.
Thanks for all yor help again
Crystal

Answer I got from computer tech:
You have just experienced bing spoofed (probably). Ever get an email that has a long line of to: and peoples email addresses. These get "used" by virus programs, and other programs that look for these things and then by benefit of your being on the "To:" list your email address gets "used" to send spam, viruses etc.
