My favourite appliances would have to be my microwave convection, and my two Kenwood mixers. I have a Kenwood Cuisine, bought a month or so back. It's great for the small and medium jobs. Then, I have a 20+ year old Kenwood Chef. It's still going strong, and gets dragged out now and again for the bigger jobs souch as Christmas cake.

Oh, I didn't mention that I've never had a dish washer either. I have a 2 legged one. Our "new " kitchen is now 14yrs old and there's still a hole there. Not financial, just get by without it. Don't think about it until I have a crowd, that is. Got excited about the F & P 2 drawer jobs, till Consumer Inst. doomed them to the scrap heap, more or less. I believe they are still having troubles. I just feel, with mainly just 2 or 3 of us I wouldn't use it much.

Food processor is well used here, also no dishwasher ( I also have the two legged variety) but am planning a new kitchen so it is top of the list but find it difficult to get tradesman after the flooding last year.Am still waiting for one to do the laundry and toilet after a leak from another well used appliance the washing machine.

Yes Jen, and we'd be all lost without our fridges, wouldn't we? We are very fortunate to have the appliances of today. How on earth did the folk of yesteryear manage. I suppose they knew no better. Glad I wasn't alive then. Don't like the idea of the old safe on the wall or under a shady tree. They were made of tough stuff back then. Maybe I'm a soft human!!!:/

It would take all day just to do the washing, no gl...oops I mean cling film to wrap food, or tinfoil. I must be getting old when I remember the first house my parents built had one of those cupboards with netting or mesh floor, to help keep foods fresh, and we, as kids had to finish the milk before it went off... even today I'm not that fussed on milk, except when it's in coffee!!! My Dad had to sell his Morris Minor(brand new, love of his life!) to trade down to an Austin A40, and with the difference, bought a fridge...no such things as credit cards etc back then, and my folks hated HP.
Actually, thinking back, he also worked 3 jobs, travelled from Glen Eden to Onehunga 6 days a week, (no motorways...) and did some boot/shoe repairs at home in the evening and on weekends. Did some photography on weekends too, weddings etc, and went digging drains during holidays...
He's the one who turns 80 on the 15th Jan.

I couldn't do without my tumble clothes dryer. I'm basically lazy and every wash my 'smalls' go into the dryer. There is only hubby and I at home now but I still use it at least once a week. It is at least 30yrs old and still going strong. Only had one repair in all that time and that is when it was reversed to hang it on the wall. It a Fisher and Paykel and I hope when it comes to replacing it a newer model will give as good a service, or do pigs fly??????

I owned a little house that didn't have room near the sink to have a dishwasher installed, so I bought a normal Fisher & Paykel one together with a special kit they supply. The dishwasher has casters fitted and a rubber hose fitted to the back and the other end fits onto an attachement that screws onto the kitchen tap. So my dishwasher was a portable one. I stored it in a spare corner in the kitchen and rolled it to the sink when required. I bought it in 1991 and passed it on to my son (in rented accommodation) when I moved into my new house, complete with dishwasher, in December 2003. The older dishwasher is still going strong for my son.
