I often travel to Ch-Ch. on my own from central otago, a 6hr. trip. I have recently discovered talking books. What a great way to pass the time, the trip seems to go very quickly. I go to the library and get enough for the trip both ways. The length of the tape is on the back so you can work out which ones you want. Any other ideas for making the trip seem to go quicker.

We used to travel to Blenheim a lot when our son was in the air force there. We too would select 2 talking books, one for each way of the car trip from Rotorua to Wellington. I remember one time we were both so engrossed in the story that we delayed boarding the ferry till the last moment while we sat and listened to the ending. Had to make a dash for it!
The books must be a real joy to those with eyesight problems or perhaps feel a little lonely.

Hi, what a good way of breaking the boredom while traveling long distances
do they have childens stories? eg Harry Potter, Little Women etc. It could be a good way for travelling with young children. The stories that we used to listen too are on tape I know, but these can be a bit tiresome for the 8-10 yearolds.

I have been using talking books in the car for years. You don't need to be on a long journey - I drive half an hour each way to and from work. Sometimes as I'm on my way out to the car I remember that I'm listening to something really good and can't wait to get into it again, and like Ali, sometimes sit parked somewhere llistening to the next enthralling bit.
I also use one in the house to accompany me when I'm doing boring chores, or when I'm cooking. Time flies when you're in a good book! Often I have two talking and one hard copy book on the go at the same time.
