I need to have a wee gripe and winge to someone!
My daughter and i rented some videos the other day and took them back on time.
When i got home last night there was a message on the answer phone saying we had not returned one of the videos. We rang and were informed that one of the videos barcodes was no longer on it (a new release) and that until i return the bar code (they have the video!!!) it will be considered out on hire and i will be charged for it!
I have hunted high and low through the house for a peice of paper or sticker with the barcode (including sitting on the kitchen floor going through the rubbish and the vacuum cleaner bag) but to absolutley no avail.
I'm not quite sure what to do, as i can not believe they can hold me to the rental of the video because its barcode fell off, but they are still charging me daily for it?!
Kind Regards
Lisa

You hired the video and then returned the video. So that should be end of story.
Do you even know if the barcode was on the video in the first place. Surely if they don't have enough glue to hold it on, that shouldn't be your fault.
Whatever happened to "the customer is always right"?
Linda.

Yes - absolutely to all the above. They can't prove you lost it. We often return ours in the after hours "hole in the wall" and even with that potential of things falling off I have never been singled out like this.
Go for it girl - with your forum mates behind you - you can accomplish anything
Good luck

I'll give the same suggestion that I did on another thread Lisa - you probably didn't see it.
Ring your local Citizens Advice Bureau (or go in if it's reachable for you) - outline your problem clearly - the staff there have a 'hotline' to Consumer Institute's lawyers which is not divulged to the public. CAB staff will ask for your 'phone number and they will ring you back once they have managed to contact the hotline on your behalf - hopefully with a definitive answer for you. Once you are armed with the right info then you can tackle the video shop - don't forget to stress to the CAB that in the meantime you are continuing to be charged!
I did that scores of times for clients when I worked for the CAB - you just have to be a tad patient whilst staff follow it through!!
Good luck!!!

They have the *****************!!!!!!!(beep beep) video!!!! What's wrong with these people? God help me, I'd give them a blinken barcode alright!!!! Right in the mouth!!!!!
Tell them to get a life, and inform them where to file their videos .......cos you and your friends won't be darkening their doorstep EVER again.
What a PATHETIC EXCUSE FOR A HUMAN BEING!!!!!!
Get stuck into them
GO GO GO LISA
None of us would blame you for smearing their window with a dud batch of custard either......:-o:}:/

Thought of you last night Lisa - we went to the local town hall to hear the Bush Poets - Australia Day - it was a lot of fun and I will see if I can write the joke.
An old farmer had four sons - 3 stayed on the farm and one went to the city to become a very successful solicitor.
The father died and the solicitor told his three brothers to keep the property, that he was too busy to attend the funeral, but to send him the account and he would attend to it.
The account for $5027.00 arrived and was duly paid. Further accounts arrived each month for $37.50. The solicitor paid two and when the third arrived he questioned it by phoning one of the brothers. The brother replied -
"Well we thought we would make Dad look especially good so we hired a Tuxedo."

Hi Linda,
I got Donald to ring them and ask them what the story was and the girl said they would just replace the barcode and made out that the conversation with me and Destiny never happened. So I guess she talked to her manager and realised she was the being rather silly.
I am put off going there again but will wait and see.
Amazing that in one conversation she can say " It will be charged out until the barcode is returned". And in the one to Donald, absolutely no problem, we will just replace it......Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Warm Fuzzies
