My ride in a policecar

My ride in a policecar February 02, 2005 03:33AM |
I've been a bit frazzled lately with Dad's recent heart attack, plus our two homestay students have been causing us some problems. Long story, but have tried to get rid of them, but told they don't have more homestays. Only two weeks and they're back home.
So cos of this, I thought I'd go and get some foils in my hair. Now this may sound weird, but I've never had them done before. Plus I there were a few greys starting to show, which really bugged me.
Mum phoned early this morning from work, to say Dad hadn't had a good night, and could I pop around sometime today on the pretence of having a coffee with him, but really just to keep an eye on him. I said I would after I'd been to the hairdressers.
Parked our car (which we got just before Xmas) in the carpark of the mall, and proceeded to the hairdresser. She did her stuff and then as they were washing out the dye, my cellphone rang. By the time, I got to it, it had stopped ringing, but I could see it was Mum calling from work. Once the hairdresser had finished, I tried to ring Mum back, but my battery (which had been a bit temperamental) decided to cut off completely. So I thought I'd head to the car where I have a charger.
Walked out to the carpark and couldn't find the car. Walked around looking and looking and after the second time around, saw two policeman. So I went and told them, I think my car's been stolen. I described it but then got a memory blank on what the rego was. Then a few moments later, remembered and told them. But as its 3 letters and two numbers, one of them thought I needed another number. One of them waited with me, and the other got the patrol car, and we drove around, but still couldn't see it. They then said it was only 60min parking, and asked how long I'd been there. By this stage it was about 90mins, but I said I'm sure I saw a sign which said 180mins. So they phoned the tow truck company, but it hadn't been towed.
So they said they'd take me to the station to complete the forms for a stolen car. I was quite stressed by this time. But to get to the station, they'd take the long way and check the rest of the carpark.
Went down one level and there was our car, all safe and sound.
Boy do I feel like a real idiot!!! So then I plugged in my phone and rang Mum who said their phone was constantly engaged and Mum was worried. So after I'd composed myself went around to their place, to find the cat had knocked the cordless phone off and they way it had fallen, turned it on.
And Dad was happily sitting in the lounge with a coffee, reading the paper.
Linda.
PS: Sorry its turned into a novel.

Hi Linda,
Sorry you've had such a bad run lately. The car thing is completely normal. I'd forget my head if it wasn't srewed on.
I say, you know its been a rough week when in my case you finally get a break to go to the toilet and you realise that when you got up you accidentilly put your knickers on sideways!
Or perhaps I'm the only Bleary eyed twit who does that:}:-o
Kind Regards
Lisa

Linda, I lost my car in the supermarket carpark one night. By the time I eventually found it my frozens weren't as hard as I'd like and the darkness had really closed in. What I wanted was a cigarette to calm me down, but you guessed it, they were in the car. A man had asked if I was alright and I was honest and said No, I can't find my car. He stopped packing his groceries and made me take some deep breaths and told me to keep walking the way I was going and that I would find it. I did too, but about 5 rows of cars away from where I thought I had parked. From that day on I write down where it is at that particular carpark and line my vehicle up with a specials sign on their window for example "4 cans beans $5"
Thank goodness your Dad was ok, and I hope like someone else suggested, that you print this off and have a laugh about it in time.
Take care,
Raewyn G:-o

Oh dear Linda - what a day!!! At least you looked great having just had your hair done!
And Irene!!! What Lisa's talking about is when she got up in the morning she put her knickers on sideways! Not when she got up from the loo!!! You can tell who's the blonde in our family!:p And Lisa, I have to admit, I've done that too - not only with knickers but with bikini pants and its damn hard changing those on the beach!!! :}

Well Heavens to Murgatroyd Linda - I did suggest to you that a bit of 'self-care' wouldn't go amiss and I was so pleased you'd decided to have your hair done!! Of course I didn't mean you to re-stress by losing your car!!
Seriously though - your mind is probably overloaded at the moment - and the bright side is that the much maligned Police ARE sometimes in the right place at the right time.
Take care - we are all sending our good vibes to you and your Dad!!

Put it down to a "blonde moment"!!!!!
And at least you gave the cops a bit of light relief for the day - much more fun than dealing with the things they usually have too!!!!
I struggle to find the car at times - especially when I've taken DH's car somewhere - I tend to look for my car and wonder where the heck it has gone...........
Must be a chick thing - navigationally challenged (well I am at times!) and too busy thinking about all of the other things that we need to do!
Thanks for the great story Linda. Glad that your car was there and that the phone was just off the hook!
The week can only get better!
cheers Wilm

Well Andrew, you've always wanted a ride in a cop car... there must be something you could do about that!!!!
Linda I feel for you.... so glad it all turned out ok. I can misplace my car, on a bad day, and I shop in a rural town. So I can imagine how easy it would be to do it in a big city carpark.
Hope life settles for you soon,
Kaye.

I know the feeling quite well Linda. If I don't park in the same place at the supermarket I am lost. Or my car is. But the best was my sister inlaw parked her car in Auckland. On returning couldn't find it. She went to the police station to report that it had been stolen. Next day they reported to her that they had found it. Exactly where she had parked it. :}:}

Andrew,
Sorry no tips on the bank robbing.... I don't hanker after a ride in a cop car...I've heard some awful stories about the things that criminals have done in the back of them....
actually you may not have to go to those lengths... just lose your car when already very stressed like poor Linda, and who knows you might just get lucky and get that ride.

A moment from the past.
We were driving through Hamilton one day many years ago , and there was a car which has on it, "Blind Man Driving" My children (now 24 & 20) couldnt work out how he knew where to go and Aaron said to us in all seriousness, his guide dog must know where to go.
The man involved makes, repairs & installs venetian blinds!!!!!
