Re: Pumpkin disappointing lack of flavour - 2 years ago
Ha, ha Kone, it's like the dish ran away with the spoon except I'm not sure which dish ran away with my "y." (I did try to fix it on my new cell phone but couldn't find how to repost it after editing. I must need some more lessons!) I'm with you on the kumi kumi.....another love of mine although I put them in the marrow type rather than pumpkin. Adore them stuffed, and I use them wby Dawn - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Pumpkin disappointing lack of flavour - 2 years ago
Buttercup is my absolute favorite, the drier, the better. For the same reason you mention Gran, I have given up buying grey pumpkin, for some years now. However it is also very easy to find when I cook it, a buttercup is moist and lacking flavour, so it's hit and miss for me. I have found local 4 square is the best place to buy a decent nz buttercup and I will buy several at a time at a good prby Dawn - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Best Blackberry Dessert - 2 years ago
I used to make Blackberry Buckle often when the kids were young and blackberries grew wild on the farm. An old recipe but a good one. There are quite a few different versions on the internet. You can't beat good, old fashioned, Blackberry and Apple Shortcake served with cream though!! Regards, Dawn.by Dawn - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Brussels Sprouts - 2 years ago
That looks lovely J1 and I've printed off the recipe. I also love roasted parsnips just on their own! Regards, Dawn.by Dawn - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Rubbing butter - 2 years ago
I used to have the half circle butter and flour cutter but I don't know what happened to it and I missed it dearly. But I'm happy now with the grated butter method. I feel I have a better control over the butter than with the food processor which will pulverize the butter very quickly if I'm not careful! Regards Dawn.by Dawn - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Rubbing butter - 2 years ago
I prefer to grate butter into flour altho I do use the food processor sometimes It is effortless if you first drop the measured chunk of butter (I usually use frozen butter) into the flour you are going to grate it into. Roll the butter so all sides are coated with flour, then grate.. The flour gives good grip on the butter. Regards Dawn.by Dawn - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Jasberry RIce - 2 years ago
I have had a box of Jasberry rice sitting in the pantry for some time and I haven't opened it yet.......we don't eat a lot of rice. What did you make with it Jenna? What sets it apart from normal white rice, apart from it's colour and the health benefits? Is it flavour? Wondering if it's not just anther food fad. Regards, Dawn.by Dawn - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Falafesl in air fryer?? - 2 years ago
I have an air fryer but don't make falafels. But I would agree with Helen that I would give the falafels a very light oil spray first and they should crisp up beautifully. Perhaps try some of each, sprayed and unsprayed, and see which result you prefer. Regards, Dawn.by Dawn - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: I am not seeing any new messages flagged - 2 years ago
I'm just a little fry in a big basket of more knowledgeable people but if you refresh Foodlovers does that help to bring it back into line? You'd need to wait till there is a new message to find out though. Just thought it may do the trick. I have had the problem couple of times over the years but not recently. It's usually comes right on its own accord. Regards, Dawn.by Dawn - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: Tray Bakes - 2 years ago
Despite my remarks above Helen, I honestly don't mind if you call it a tray bake I don't think it will send me to drink! If that's the trend overseas, then someone's got to do it here so go for it! Kind regards, Dawn.by Dawn - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Tray Bakes - 2 years ago
I feel exactly the same as Annie H - tray bakes are slices and biscuits! It will probably always go against my grain to have a different meaning. Perhaps I'm too staid in my ways!! I'd probably call it an "All in 1 Oven Dinner". Or just "Oven Dinner". Call it what it is, unexciting and downmarket, I know! However, it's not unusual for someone to reinvent somethingby Dawn - Foodlovers Food Talk

Re: What would you do? - 3 years ago
Helen, I think I would have done exactly as you did. My loss, Supermarket's gain, as it's a paid for garlic bulb which came from another market place. After all, in supermarkets you do see misplaced items which are usually items shoppers have decided not to buy and politely put them on a shelf albeit not in the correct place, although I must say I've never done that either! Re: Mock raspberry jam - 3 years ago
Hi Barbara, I knew there was a time limit, but I didn't know the exact time-lines, which you have kindly provided - thank you! I hoped someone would come up with the info. I remember Mum had the radio turned up loud so she could hear Aunt Daisy's morning radio sessions as she went about her housework! Aunt Daisy was a legend in those days! I have not made this recipe. Regards, Dby Dawn - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Mock raspberry jam - 3 years ago
Aunt Daisy has a Mock Raspberry or Strawberry Jam recipe, quantities are different to Kiwi's recipe, uses 4lbs tomatoes and there are no apples. I don't think I can post it here because of copyright? Had to laugh at the thought of men carving pips Stephanie!! Regards, Dawn.by Dawn - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: New Oven Hiccups - 3 years ago
Great news Mantilla! I hope all goes well with your replacement oven - as it should! Regards, Dawn.by Dawn - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: New Oven Hiccups - 3 years ago
You have rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act. It seems to me that your oven is faulty/not fit for purpose and you are able to ask for a new replacement oven. The CGA gives you rights beyond expiry of the manufacturer's guarantee as well. Good luck. Regards Dawn.by Dawn - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: Plum sauce - 3 years ago
If you have Agee preserving jars and corresponding preserving lids and screw rings, I have used them when I'm short on bottles and just transfer the sauce into a bottle or two when needed. Regards, Dawn.by Dawn - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Julie Biuso's Carrot and Fresh Date Salad - 3 years ago
Networkin, as expensive as they are, once you eat a fresh date as opposed to a dried date, you won't be able to stop at just eating one! Regards, Dawn.by Dawn - Foodlovers Food Talk

Re: Regular bake vs fan bake - 3 years ago
If a recipe states Fanbake for baking then I usually use that setting, otherwise I use Bake function for baking. I never cook more than one tray at once on Fan Bake. Roasting vegetables and chicken/whole/pieces I use Fanbake mostly, sometimes use it for roasts. I use Fan Grill for grilling marinated steak, making breadcrumbs and cooking fish. Re: Home-made face masks - 3 years ago
Wondering if you can make it so you could remove the nose wire prior to washing and replace and re-shape it again? Regards, Dawn. Edited: Just read Jenna's suggestion of a paper clip - good idea as I don't think that would rust if washed.by Dawn - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
