Re: Lollies to take to kids in UK - 15 years ago
I agree with Clare, take a few Whittakers Peanut Slabs, as well as the other things mentioned. Every overseas visitor we've had has raved over them! Most of the females have been told to try toffee pops as well. I did see some bags of the small chocolate fish at our New World supermarket. Cheers, Marnieby Marnie - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Cherry Ripe Bars - 15 years ago
"Cookware essentials" and Irene, thanks both for the slice recipes. I've taken hard copies and added them to my recipe collection and will definitely try them both out at some time in the near future. Tanzya, I am in Tauranga, New Zealand. My husband loves cherry ripes, I sometimes sneak a little nibble! When we were in Queensland recently he was buying lots. (Probably more than heby Marnie - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Splenda Sugar Blends - 15 years ago
I've never seen the "blends" in this country, LJ, but then I've never looked in the specialist grocery stores for Splenda. Cheers, Marnieby Marnie - Foodlovers Food Talk

I buy Splenda from my local New World supermarket. Cheers, Marnieby Marnie - Foodlovers Food Talk

Re: Plastic bag for flying rules - 15 years ago
They were still giving them out at Auckland airport when we were there a few weeks ago. Also offering them at Brisbane airport. I have found that the sealable section of the bags, now available at the supermarkets, aren't as user friendly as they used to be. I still have a few of the old bags (same brand) where that section is coloured, far stronger and easier to line up for closure. I know tby Marnie - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: Cherry Ripe Bars - 15 years ago
Thanks for all your helpful replies. Ironically, as I am a diabetic, I cannot eat them..well I will maybe sneak the occasional nibble of a tiny corner!! I used to love them too, but hubby can have a few treats from time to time. Cheers, Marnieby Marnie - Foodlovers Food Talk

Cherry Ripe Bars - 15 years ago
My husband loves cherry ripe bars and having just had 3 weeks in Australia he renewed his delight in them. Does anyone know whether you can purchase these in New Zealand? You used to be able to buy them here, but like so many things, they suddenly stopped appearing. Cheers, Marnieby Marnie - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Signature Range Peanut Butter - 15 years ago
I don't think I have tried Signature Range Peanut Butter, but I did notice recently that 3 of the major supermarkets had big spaces in the peanut butter area and I had to hunt around to get the one my husband really likes, which is Sanitarium Original Crunchy (no added sugar).by Marnie - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Newbie - 15 years ago
Linda, You took the words right out of my mouth. My exact experience, my comment was never recorded. They had asked for feedback, but obviously they didn't want anything negative. Mine was constructive criticism. I had thought their forum was to complement their magazine, apparently I was wrong. I totally agree with your last sentence.by Marnie - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

Re: Why not meyer lemons for marmalade - 15 years ago
There are plenty of meyer lemon marmalade recipes on google. Trisha, I didn't realise that meyer is a cross between orange/lemon, thanks for that. I have a meyer growing, it seems to fruit all year round. Lisbon lemons are more tart, and I think that may be the reason they are suggested. Also, meyers generally have more juice than lisbon. If a recipe calls for juice of one lemon I take tby Marnie - Foodlovers Food Talk

Sorry, I thought Lorna meant the forum was one run by Avast. I belong to a New Zealand based IT forum, one or two of the forum users can occasionally be...as you say "quite.....uppity" but they are quickly pulled into line by one of the moderators or other members. Re: So fed up with mediocre restaurants - 15 years ago
"The funny thing is...smoking dope and having the odd flight of induced fantasy seems to be okay to them.!!!!!!!!!!!!! I give up." I had a laugh at that one, Kerry. Sometime ago I was in Austria and wanted some coldrex, or something similar. Unlike New Zealand, where such products are shown on the shelves, I had to ask (showing the packet). The assistant didn't speak much Engliby Marnie - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: NZ produce is not "brilliant" - 15 years ago
I tend to agree with you and most of our supermarkets disappoint. The produce and quality have declined greatly. I know our shopping/eating habits have changed a lot over the years and this may have something to do with the decline of good foodstuffs. I do prefer certain supermarkets over others for things such as meat and vegetables/fruit. The quality can depend a lot on who has good butcheby Marnie - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Politically Incorrect Party - 15 years ago
Make and carry placards or wear large sashes with such statements as: "Ban Votes for Women" ..."Women Belong in the Kitchen"... "Smoking Encouraged Here!!"...or, specially for the male...."I am MCP and Proud of it" Wearing fur (mock, if you like) is good. Will be interesting to hear of the themes of those participating. Re: So fed up with mediocre restaurants - 15 years ago
Karen, you set me thinking about what I would provide for a vegan or vegetarian who came to stay. I know I would be doing a fair bit of research, such as, do they eat fish, or absolutely no dairy? I have copied the list you posted, should I be in such a situation. If we were going out for a meal I would be pre-phoning the restaurant to see what was on offer. A lot of the ethnic restaurants,by Marnie - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

I had upgraded from AVG 7.5 to AVG 8...I found they kept trying to lead me to the pay version, fortunately, I have www.download.com in my favourites. It wasn't long before I realised that version 8 was slowing things so much. I installed free version AVAST.by Marnie - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Fast Food Suitable for Diabetics - 15 years ago
Can anyone help with ideas for quickly prepared meals for those with diabetes? I can easily adjust a lot of the meals, so they are limited in fat, sugar and carbohydrates. But I find myself scratching my head for ideas for tasty, quickly prepared meals. Cheers, Marnieby Marnie - Foodlovers Food Talk

Re: What is your Favourite Colour? - 15 years ago
Colour me red....sometimes blue. Stephanie, I agree about the black clothing in stores. Someone commented to me about New Zealand women wearing so much black. At that time a look around the stores showed why..."you can have any colour you like, so long as it's black"!! Seemed to dominate. I do use black, and it can look stunning, but it needs brighter accessories. Marnieby Marnie - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: What foods do you miss when overseas - 15 years ago
Fresh fruit and veges. Vegemite. Good coffee (in UK). Good cheese and a good cup of tea (in USA). Whitebait patties (must be West Coast whitebait). When in London, daughter in law used to go to New Zealand house and purchase treats.by Marnie - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

Gift Sites for Australia - 15 years ago
My daughter in law (in Brisbane) is having one of those "Oh" birthdays next week. I do have a gift I will be taking over to her in July but want to send something special. Does anyone know of any really good, reliable gift sites where I can order something to be delivered to her. In the past I have used 'Petals' for floral orders in NZ and they do worldwide coverage.
