Re: 194 days to go... - 17 years ago
Tessa, make sure you apply for your Visas for India in plenty of time. The consulate has improved, but there have been problems in the past, but I think with the old High Commissioner being kicked out they are better now, but don't leave your Visa's until the last minute Cheers ireneby Irene Field - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

Re: persistant "new"s - 17 years ago
Hi Alaine, I have found it still happens if I click on Message list, and I never use the back button. I think it is a wee glitch in the system now and thenby Irene Field - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: persistant "new"s - 17 years ago
Hi Penny, I find this does happen occasionally, so I just go down to the bottom and click on mark all messages as read, and then that fixes it. cheers, Ireneby Irene Field - Foodlovers Food Talk

Re: Popcorn - another choice removed! - 17 years ago
I used to try microwave popcorn, and after nearly setting fire to my microwave (I thought someone was burning rubbish outside, as I was busy studying at the time, and then discovered smoke billowing from my microwave), and several other unsuccessful attempts after that - I decided to buy a popcorn maker and make my own now, much yummier, safer and low fat to bootby Irene Field - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: How snowed in are you? - 17 years ago
Bev, was it 43 in Dubai? You must be noticing it you poor thing. I have some customers due to get there from the UK next week, so I don't know how they will cope with the heat and then come back to our winter - brrrrrrrrrrr.by Irene Field - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

and Lynette my darling sis in PNG got me hooked - word of mouth (she was staying with me and I couldn't understand why she had to access this website once a day while she was with me - at first I thought my company wasn't good enough hehehhehehe just kidding - and then when she left I started looking and lo and behold - a website addiction began )by Irene Field - Foodlovers Food Talk

Margaret, thanks for posting those photos. The depth of the snow is unbelievable. And Lisa I agree re the news - I am a NI'er, but the news is so biased towards everything up in Auckland.by Irene Field - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: How snowed in are you? - 17 years ago
Hi Kerry, you are so right about technology etc and how power reliant we are. We have a heat pump and oil heater, but being an old house the lounge has a fireplace and the kitchen a working coal range - and we keep stocks of firewood and coal as a 'just in case'. Thank god we didn't have power cuts here in Hamilton, but it makes you realise how reliant on power we are, as an energy source. Butby Irene Field - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: How snowed in are you? - 17 years ago
Hi Lisa, I was thinking of you and other foodies down South, when I heard you were snowed in and roads were closed. Up here it is precipitating rain (that is being polite), and it is horrendous. I keep losing the net connection as well. It's going to be a horrible start to the week I can see. Cheers, Ireneby Irene Field - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

Re: Rose spraying programme please - 17 years ago
Su, I find the Mitre 10 website excellent for Gardening tips, and a month by month calender. Here is a cut and paste on what they recommend for winter spraying For all of their beauty, roses do require regular spraying in order to remain pest and disease free. Winter is a good time for spraying - to catch any over-wintering insect eggs or fungal spores. A good general clean up spray to apply nby Irene Field - Garden Lovers Forum

Re: HELP!! burnt smell and black pot - 17 years ago
I would boil vinegar in water in the pot - have no idea of the measurements I just slurp it in. With regards the smell I am wondering, if onion absorbs paint smells if that would work - cut an onion in half and leave it in the room???????by Irene Field - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: oh the pressure of deciding on a baby name!!!! - 17 years ago
I always wanted Zoe, but we ended up with 2 boys who would not have suited Zoe. We settled on Harley, not for the motorbike connection, but because it means deer hunter, and both my (then) hubbie and his dad were into hunting, and then we settled on Todd for no. 2 - it was going to be Toby, but we were both tubby, so I thought if he ended up on the porky side, he would be nicknamed Tubby Toby - sby Irene Field - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

Re: cleaning windows - 17 years ago
I found this tip on trademe for window cleaning, here is a cut and paste Mix 4 tbsp cornflour (yes, cornflour) to a paste with a little water. Put in spray bottle and 1/2 fill with warm water. Spray onto windows and wipe with a cloth and then dry with a soft cloth eg, I use an old facecloth. Windows really shine and gleam when done and no smears...........so simple! I have yet to try it, buby Irene Field - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: Byron Bay - 17 years ago
Hi Josie, we were there in March, but just for a couple of hours as we were driving through - and the weather was cold, and wet, we struck an unseasonal week of wet weather. So not many tips sorry. Re: Apropos of nutmeg! - 17 years ago
Stephanie, you are very kind hearted to let the spider scurry away. I remember when I lived in Oz and a spider was hiding in my towel, and after my shower I was drying myself and it bit me on the midriff. I got such a shock to see a spider stuck on my midriff I swept it off, put it under the bathmat and jumped on it until it was squashed beyond recognition. Well then I had to go to the hospitalby Irene Field - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Best (inexpensive) garden hint - 17 years ago
Wonderful tips thanks Bev. Will remember that for when the tomatoes go in later this year. I don't know if this is an old wives tale or not, but have been told when planting a lemon tree to always put a round of copper wire in the soil, or even to pee on the soil around a lemon tree (not willing to try that one out!!). But I haven't the room here for a lemon tree, so not sure if they are tried aby Irene Field - Garden Lovers Forum

Re: Bog Plants - 17 years ago
Kay, here is a cut and paste from Mitre 10's website re some suitable plants: Aquatic plants grow in the water with their roots in soil and their leaves floating on or above the surface. Waterlilies and lotus are aquatic plants. Marginal plants grow at the water`s edge, with their roots in shallow water. Japanese iris, Siberian iris and papyrus tolerate wet feet.
