find older recipes - 8 years ago
Hi, is there still a way to see older topics through an app., that gave me access to a forum, where I could ask a question on a particular ingredient and find a various number of comments re that topic. I want to find a good tasty white sauce to combine with leeks. Thanks desby des - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: marmalade jam - 8 years ago
Thanks dawn, I am boiling the pulp mix now. Haven't put the sugar in yet. The pulp measures 3-1/2 cups. Measured with water/juice mix comes to 6-8 cups which means that amount of sugar which seems a bit much. I think I'll put 4 cups sugar and go from there. desby des - Foodlovers Food Talk
marmalade jam - 8 years ago
Hi, I am making some marmalade jam using grapefruit and a lemon and the recipe says to add a cup of sugar to a cup of pulp. Now the pulp has been soaking in 1.75 lts water and pulp juice. If I measure the pulp and water, I would need more sugar than if I just measured the pulp. Should I just drain the water into the pot, and then measure the pulp and sugar that way? It is supposed to make 6x250mlby des - Foodlovers Food Talk

Hi IngridO, I like medium curry flavour, but I never use more than a couple of teaspoons. Do you really use 3/4 tablespoons of curry pdr in your recipe with only a small amount of liquid? thanks desby des - Foodlovers Food Talk

green tomato relish - 9 years ago
Hi, I've just picked all my green tomatoes, hoping to make some green tomato relish. I found a recipe from NZ Gardener which told me that green tomatoes are actually heirloom tomatoes that are still green when ripe. My tomatoes are green green. Could I use them in any way does anyone know? Thanks desby des - Foodlovers Food Talk

Re: Preserved lemons - hope they will work! - 9 years ago
Hi, when would you eat them and what with? My lemon tree is usually loaded and they are mostly given away, although I juice a lot for winter. They would be quite salty I would think. thanks desby des - Foodlovers Food Talk

luncheon sausage - 9 years ago
At a superette at Tuakau, I bought a hutton's garlic flavoured chub. I haven't been able to find them anywhere including P&S, Countdown, and other superettes. Anyone know who has them? The local shops don't have them as they mostly stock up at P&S. Thanks, desby des - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: condensed milk salad dressing recipe - 11 years ago
Hi, If you google 'titoki mayonaise' it's my favourite. Countdown sells Highlander condensed milk in 200 gm tubes which I use to halve the recipe.by des - Foodlovers Food Talk
allysium - 11 years ago
Hi, One year ago I scattered a packet of Allysium seeds on a bare patch, and they are still flowering. What to do next? Should I pull them out, or will they keep on going? Or dig them in maybe. Does anyone know about this flower? Thanksby des - Garden Lovers Forum

Re: Pumpkin seeds - 11 years ago
Hi, This is a part of a page from King's seeds website:- 'We are often asked which of our pumpkins can be grown for harvesting edible pumpkin seeds. The two pumpkins we sell that have hull-less seeds and can therefore be easily harvested for edible seed are Pumpkin Austrian Oil Seed, and Pumpkin Baby Bear.' This may help.by des - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Vacuum Packaging - 11 years ago
I bought a Sinbo vacuum sealer about 2 years ago and it works well. I get the plastic bags from Gilmours, (courtesy local shopkeeper) 250 pack 200 x 375, 30 gauge, which is the size I need to freeze flounders. I also bought some much smaller bags off trademe for veg. It has a timer for the thickness of bag and although my bags are quite strong it only takes 3secs to seal bags. I never had any suby des - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: too sweet relish - 12 years ago
Thanks pippimac, Yes, I loved it when I had a jar given to me. This is my first go at this relish. The recipe and a small jar was given to me by a friend's wife. It has become a little less sweet now that it's been made for a while. I'll wait a week or two before checking it again. Thanks again. desby des - Foodlovers Food Talk
too sweet relish - 12 years ago
I have just made 6 bottles of cucumber, tomato and onion relish and I find it is miles too sweet. When I made it I thought there seemed to be too much sugar, but followed the recipe. Should I just reboil and add more vinegar, or is there some other way to lessen the sweetness? Thanks desby des - Foodlovers Food Talk

Re: cheesecake query - 12 years ago
Hi Clare, no fan bake on. The oven door doesn't shut properly on one end although I've not had too much trouble in the past with cheesecakes. I think the door is getting worse.I'll try the water bath method. Thanks desby des - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: cheesecake query - 12 years ago
The cake had collapsed before I took it out after 1 hr and the sides were burnt but the mixture wasn't cooked. It was the N.Y. cheesecake recipe from the sun. herald from a while ago. No temp or tin size given. I had it at 150c for 1 1/4 hrs in a 20cm tin. The recipe said about 1 1/2 hrs. Thanks for your help. desby des - Foodlovers Food Talk
