Re: Broad Beans - 2 years ago
We have grown broad beans for some years & like to pick them quite young when they are at their sweetest, nice raw too. They freeze very well out of their shells, don't blanche them, great in stews added near the end but otherwise blanched & we just have them undressed. You can mash for a dip but haven't done that but google for a recipe.by Lyn V - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Lemon Meringue Pie - 2 years ago
It turned out delicious & I googled what to do so didn’t slip but it did run a bit of liquid, not sure why because I read what to do to stop that. Never mind it was very tasty everyone enjoyed it, none left either. It has just come to mind but I think it was Gordon ? not Ramsay that gave the tip in the herald when they had that lift out cooking section it often had tips in it. Maybe somebodyby Lyn V - Foodlovers Food Talk

Lemon Meringue Pie - 2 years ago

Horlicks is available - 2 years ago
I have found Horlicks back on the shelves in New World Orewa. It is now in a tin & comes from Australia, I think the plastic container was from the UK, not definite on that. It has a slightly different flavour more oaty, I need 3 heaped teaspoons full though for any flavour which I find annoying because it isn’t cheap & so doesn’t go so far. Very enjoyable all the same.by Lyn V - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Lambs Fry Bacon and Red Wine Gravy - 2 years ago
We love lambs fry & bacon too but not tried with red wine gravy. Yes agree flash cooking makes it so tender & juicy. If ever possible it is best fresh from a farm kill, so tender. Ask your butcher what day is delivery that’s when I buy it.by Lyn V - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Fresh Chilli prices - 2 years ago
We grow our as well, a few varieties & they grow so well & look really pretty in a container on the deck. I get a whole lot & blend some, chop some & freeze them. They don’t blend or chop quite so easy if you chop or blend from frozen, hence I do it first. I do the same with ginger successfully but wondered can you do garlic? I do do it but heard you shouldn’t what are people’sby Lyn V - Foodlovers Food Talk

Thank you Gran, I too haven’t been wearing makeup but as it was Father’s Day today I thought I would do so, also some nice perfume, no remarks as to whether I looked any different or smelt nice but I felt good, I guess that’s what counts. Maybe, just maybe I look just as good without it…hmmm. Will pass on that one. I can put a book down anytime too but hubbie too likes to get to a chapter then iby Lyn V - Foodlovers Food Talk

Re: Books - 2 years ago
Just reading ‘Black Teacher’, by Beryl Gilroy, an excellent read about a young black girl from Guyanese who goes to London & tries to seek work in a white world. Very touching & inspiring and very well written about how the white people reacted to black people.by Lyn V - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

Jenna, that sounded lovely & so original, just what she wanted too. How lovely of you to do the daisies, would have helped your mind as well thinking of the love that was going to be showered over her.by Lyn V - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: Are avocados new season? - 2 years ago
On tv1 Country calendar Sunday night 28th there is a story about a new variety of avocados grown In Gisborne & it should be very interesting. I have just read about it. Not available in shops yet but working on it. Available at farmers market stalls etc around Gisborne.by Lyn V - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Pancakes - 2 years ago
They can be either Lorna, the more milk you add the thinner they get of course but we like ours thicker & roll up but the syrup & lemon juice do run out but still lovely.by Lyn V - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Creative and Personal Memorials/Funerals - 2 years ago
My friend went to one recently at Schnapper Rock on the north shore. It was at the end of a col de sac (sp) overlooking the river & beautiful lawns , trees & shrubs around. The hearse was there with the celebrant & the family & friends gathered around. Beautiful words & stories were shared & afternoon tea was served elsewhere. Balloons were sent off at the end as well. Pancakes - 2 years ago
My brother who lives in Canada now retired had his own restaurant in Hay River & he often sent me a box of beautiful Canadian maple syrup & I am going to share his recipe with you. I like it because you don’t need to butter the pan & as I now own a non stick pan it is even better as it slides easier. Beat 4 eggs, 2 cups flour, 2 cups milk & 150gr melted butter. Beat altogether rby Lyn V - Foodlovers Food Talk
Helens Cheese Scones - 2 years ago
This morning I made Helens cheese scones, they were the best I have ever made. I’m ok making muffins but scones no… Hubbie who usually eats 1 when we go out ate 2, couldn’t believe I had made them. Our sons family raved about them too. Thanks Helen.by Lyn V - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: hows everyone going this time around - 2 years ago
Hubbie & I both well & truly retired don’t find the days much different but our son & DIL had set off to the far south from Red Beach for a 3 week well needed holiday in our motor home on the Friday only to reach there on the following Thursday & had to turn back & come home. They had gotten to Cromwell & were wanting to spend most of their time in the lower area. They werby Lyn V - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

Re: A Bit of Forum History - 2 years ago
I registered 14 years ago, seen some come & go for various reasons, nice meetings at Helens home for those living in Auckland who have been fortunate to have been able to go. I remember Tammy & Lorna, Irene & JI from way back. Some wonderful ideas & recipes. It is a good place to go to for inspiration when the mind has gone blank. Have loved it all thanks Helen & all others.by Lyn V - Foodlovers Food Talk

Re: Non Stick Pans - 2 years ago
Barbara Anne, thanks for the giggle, I never thought I would have a non stick pan but they come in handy for some things. Like Helen I have my heavy cast iron ones & stainless steel. I bought a beautiful one from the home show, I just love it the handle unclips & I can brown or whatever & then put into the oven. It’s a Woll, German brand.by Lyn V - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

Re: Spaghetti with roasted cauliflower etc.. - 2 years ago
My dinner was lovely last night, your Cauliflower, chickpea recipe was lovely. I made it with rice noodles as she can’t have wheat & I added mixed beans, chickpeas & pork fillet steak with a chicken based sauce for those not vegan but in hind site I needed a sauce for your dish Helen as she did find it dry but otherwise was lovely. I did do a whole lot of extra roast veggies too for on tby Lyn V - Foodlovers Food Talk

Re: Apple strudel - 2 years ago
This takes my mind back to a time I worked with this 16 going on 20 yer old German girl who’s parents were sailing the world on their yacht, she invited us to dinner & she had made apple strudel with brandy in it, she had put too much & ruined it but a lovely memory being on the beautiful yacht meeting her parents who’s father was actually the mayor of his town & he wore his full regaby Lyn V - Foodlovers Food Talk
