Re: Ottolenghi's "Flavour" - 8 weeks ago
I have made the aubergine dumplings a few times and always well received, as well as the miso onions. There are a few others i want to try.. i think with these books they are a little out there and not everyday meals . I like that they push me to use ingredients I wouldn't ordinarily try!by Karen - Foodlovers Food Talk

Re: Reminder of things we don't eat - not even in lockdown - 10 months ago
I've sort of challenged my self to use up somethings lurking in the pantry , fridge. Whipped up a really good dahl, with a sad looking bag of yellow split peas Dried chickpeas, soaked and whipped up some hummus, then made a batch of falafels, then froze the rest to make more falafels. I am also going to try and freeze hummus, to see how it defrosts as we never eat enough at any one time, aby Karen - Foodlovers Food Talk

Re: Lockdown cooking - 10 months ago
Yes, last night made flat breads from flour and greek yogurt, so...easy and really good. To go along with made from scratch falafels, using soaked not canned chickpeas again yum. Easy and tasty dinner. Just trying feijoa jelly, 1st batch I burnt...should have trusted instincts, rather than the recipe as written! Hot cross buns, lavosh, whipped feta, chilli jam, chilli sauce, different breadby Karen - Foodlovers Food Talk
New recipes tried during lockdown - 10 months ago

My hits and new recipes Cumin & sesame lavosh, late starter to these, but have made about 5 batches. Whipped feta dip/spread, how did I miss this amazing just to spread on toast with fresh tomatoes. Re: What sort of things do you freeze? - 10 months ago
Yeast, is a good tip, I seem to use lots or none. I have put my wholemeal flour into a container then into freezer. Buy bug bags of flaked Almonds at gilmores and freeze. Definitely fresh ginger. Whole kaffia limes off tree, use the zest for curries.by Karen - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Whipped feta - 10 months ago
Just whipped up a batch yesterday, but added greek oregano to it, and yogurt instead of sour cream. Very addictive. Added chilli sauce to some to serve with Quesadillas.by Karen - Foodlovers Food Talk

Kato sauces - 1 year ago
Does anyone know who produces the Kato sauces? I would love to contact them regards one of their older sauce ranges Chemoula. I have just purchased the Zarbo one and to say I am disappointed is an understatement. If I hadn't paid so much for it I would throw it away!by Karen - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Jackfruit - 1 year ago

Re: Jackfruit - 1 year ago
Not a curry recipe but uses the tinned jackfruit. This is really good. I don't have liquid smoke, but use extra smoked paprika.by Karen - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Food show - 1 year ago
I ended up going on the Sunday, not too bad crowd wise! Bought a few things, trickett's walnut oil, and Sone's secret sauce, a thai style dressing, that is made in paraparaumu, and a couple of Quorn products, that were cheaper than the supermarket. Helen if you are trying to cut down meat, the "mince" is really good in a shepherds pie style dish, especially topped with a cauli mash.by Karen - Foodlovers Food Talk

Re: Menu planning - 1 year ago
I try to "plan" dinners, I find if I only plan a couple of meals and shop for these, i can freestyle for a couple more dishes so i use up all the fresh bits. last week we had Roast dinner, cauli cheese, mushroom risotto balls Leftovers reheated next night spinach feta mushroom pie, veggie shepherds pie with cauliflower mash top. Soy sauce - 1 year ago
Just wondering what soy sauces people used, and thought were the best? We probably use ours mostly for cooking, and occasionally for a dipping sauce. Now we have access to lots of Asian, shops the choice is overwhelming..by Karen - Foodlovers Food Talk
