Re: Stick Blenders - 4 years ago
I love my stick blender too as well as my spiral peeler and grater in one. It takes up no space and can peel a carrot as well as make spirals/strips. Its grate LOL for courgettes too Another thing that gets use daily is my sandwich press - I cook lots on it from sausages, bacon, eggs, toasted sandwiches, pancakes, wraps, fish fingers - its awesome. I think Im onto number 3, not because its broby Vanessa45 - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Bubble Tea - 4 years ago
Yep I am a teacher of Intermediate aged kids and my own son who is Year 7. Every day we go on and on about being healthy and making good choices, as a parent and as a teacher. Personally energy drinks and fizzy are more the issue - fizzy because its so cheap and energy drinks because of the caffeine and whatever else is in them - thank goodness you have to be 16 to buy them now. Re: Homemade salad dressings - 4 years ago
Adding a couple of frozen raspberries and blitzing it up with oil/vinegar, mustard, touch of sugar makes a sweet and fruity pinky dressing - really nice for summer. Try it with balsamic too Vanessaby Vanessa45 - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Ali W - this is for you - Deck Lounger - 4 years ago
I had a chest of drawers like that and the trim made it about 1 cm to wide for the space - very frustrating. Work in progress as always ;-) Vanessaby Vanessa45 - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Ali W - this is for you - Deck Lounger - 4 years ago
Attached are 2 lovely pics from Pinterest and one of my deck. Its a bit messy with stuff underneath and not styled but you get the idea. The blue cushions are 3 KMART waterproof animal cushions - cheap $25 each or about that. Vanessaby Vanessa45 - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

Re: Iceberg lettuce salad with condensed milk dressing - 4 years ago
We didnt have it al all, my Dad is Italian and we always had salad after our meal and it was with salt/pepper/oil and vinegar - simple. I do remember having it at BBQs and it was very sweet tasting? Its not a salad I would get excited over especially wilting in the warmth over summer. It needs crispy cold iceberg, a bit of crunch - maybe a salty nut or bacon, cherry tomatoes, celery or cuby Vanessa45 - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Least favourite kitchen job - 4 years ago
I hate drying plastic containers and big pots. I usually leave them to drip dry or put them on the balcony for the sun to dry them. I also dont like emptying the bin and then having to put another bag in. Getting the spirals of courgettes out of my spiral/peeler annoys me too I used to have a juicer and couldnt stand cleaning that every day but now have toned down the appliances it rby Vanessa45 - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

Re: Black washing liquid - 4 years ago
So does it work? I also try not to wash black stuff as much as nearly black just isnt the same. If I happen to find a pair of jeans that fit like a glove (NOT OFTEN) or shoes that I really love, I buy 2 pairs. Shoes NEVER last and you can never have to many perfect fit jeans. Re: Old Jack - 4 years ago
Ohhhh soooo sorry to hear about Jack. Animals are amazing parts of our families. Our cat is over 18 years old and showing her age, shes not great at cleaning her fluffy coat, waits for us to carry her up the stairs, is fussy with food in her old age and sleeps ALOT! We love her so much and will really miss her when it's time to do the same. Im dreading that day. Shes been through so manyby Vanessa45 - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Bubble Tea - 4 years ago
Does anyone drink this? Can you recommend one to try? My son was very keen to try one so today we went to Ting Tea in Albany. Im not a lover of these types of drinks at all and the jelly bits are a real turn off, however he was very keen. Kids at school get them on their way to school and drink them at morning tea time - thats life on the North Shore! The staff member at Ting Tea recommby Vanessa45 - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Any better name suggestions? - 4 years ago
I feel like its a loaf but clearly loaf denotes the shape such as a meatloaf. If it was in a different tin, you could totally get away with it. ;-) What about a zucchini feta and ricotta bread? Maybe its too eggy for a bread? Arghhhh its a hard one, I even googled synonyms for cake but Im stumped! Vanessa PS - I like zucchini feta and ricotta savoury. Re: Tiny melting moment - 4 years ago
A really zesty filling - either passionfruit or lemon but zesty enough to cut the richness of the biscuits. I love these and think they are a beautiful biscuit to make as a gift. Vanessaby Vanessa45 - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Vegetable side dishes - 4 years ago
Asparagus and Egg salad is a great side with lots of lemon juice and black pepper. Edamame beans is easy and delicious Sprouts, bacon and mustard hits the spot too - even add a bit of kale. Puy lentils, garlic, rosemary, roasted tomatoes - deliciousby Vanessa45 - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Garlic from USA - 4 years ago
Im still using the SOLO garlic as its soooo easy to peel and chop. I have no idea where its from, probably China. Its quite mild and I do use it in many things. I also use dried garlic, its very useful especially on pizza, cheese on toast, in dips, marinades, dressings, salads..... Vanessaby Vanessa45 - Foodlovers Food Talk

Re: New Mac OS Catalina - 4 years ago
We are still running Mojave 10.14.6 at work (school - lots of Macs) as well as on my Mac - I think Ill keep using this operating system for the time being. Thanks for the heads up. We have a software company who sorts this out for us, they have just set up NEW Macs and its not running Catalina - maybe this is why???? Vanessaby Vanessa45 - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: marinades burning - 4 years ago
Yes ones that have been pre marinated in the supermarket and you will be right - way too much sugar ect. They are just so easy BUT yes I really need to make my own and Id love to know any great marinades. I use teriyaki sauce but once again, sugar sugar sugar. What is the tenderiser or the ingredient that makes the meat tender? The acid? I know Koreans use kiwifruit squashed in Bulgogoi aby Vanessa45 - Foodlovers Food Talk
banh mi and rice paper rolls - 4 years ago
I had my first banh mi a few weeks back. I had high hopes but was disappointed. I think the flavours were really good, I just wanted a lot more filling. Does anyone make these? What do you put in yours? I LOVE pate and coriander so these will be in mine. Also Rice paper rolls - how delicious are these - I often buy them from my sushi shop and they are filled with cabbage, crispy chicby Vanessa45 - Foodlovers Food Talk

marinades burning - 4 years ago
I buy chicken kebabs and marinated chickens and Im so sick of the marinade turning black and burning. I cooked a good, free-range split chicken over the weekend on my Webber and all around the edges the marinade - herb and lemon I think, went black and didnt taste good. The same happens with soy/satay kebabs - its sooooo disappointing. Im assuming cooking it on a lower heat is the keyby Vanessa45 - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Chicken breast and bacon? - 4 years ago
Ohhh thanks for the seriously delicious ideas - I actually have HEAPS of chicken breasts in my freezer after buying a bulk load on sale from Gilmore a few months back. Im now even thinking of freezing some of the ideas such as the pesto/bacon and ending up with easy summer working week dinners that are different to my normal. Re: The price and quality of avocados! - 4 years ago
Speaking of avocados, I was lucky to get a bag of them off a friends tree in Tauranga - they ripened quickly and I couldnt eat them all at once. I pureed them with lemon juice and chilli flakes and bagged it into snaplock bags - one per bag. I took a bag out in the morning and took it to work with veg sticks as Im on a bit of a health kick ;-) The avocado was AMAZING! The next day Iby Vanessa45 - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Good pizza base - 4 years ago
I dont even use a recipe now. I add a sachet of yeast to some warm water with some sugar (half teaspoon) salt and a bit of olive oil - I leave this to froth and bubble. I then add about 4 cups of flour and enough water to create a dough and knead it for about 5-10m till smooth and shiny. I leave this to rise - 30 minutes or half the day depending on what Im doing to and then re kneadby Vanessa45 - Foodlovers Food Talk

Re: Barbecue Accessories - 4 years ago
Oh yes maybe that would be a good idea (fish tray) The Webber stuff is expensive and in my opinion, not needed. Ive even tried the pizza stone but prefer my pizzas in my oven on a regular dish - just as good and you dont need to heat them up. Vanessaby Vanessa45 - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
