Crevice Brushes - 4 months ago
I have seen on the net brushes that appear to get right down into crevices and nooks and crannies. I have a shower which is badly designed. Grooves in the outside metal frame that are impossible to clean with even a small toothbrush as the bristles are not long enough. Some parts are wide enough to get cotton buds in but then the groove gets so narrow that it doesn't work. Believe me, I haveby Chris - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

Re: Spam - 5 months ago
It’s a bit concerning, Danube. I don’t know any members personally but when you have belonged to a forum for a very long time you notice when someone isn’t present any longer. I just hope she is well.by Chris - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: Harry the pooch's latest adventure - 5 months ago
Ali, that is good news because it could have gone dreadfully wrong. He is an adventurous pooch. Here in Wanaka, cats sometimes go missing, ending up locked in holiday homes or garages. It’s a worry.by Chris - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

Poor Lorna, having to deal with quite a bit of spam this morning. I am always a bit surprised how they register and also put the spam prevention numbers in. They are a curse.by Chris - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
The cost of things - 5 months ago
I recently replaced a broom that I used for the kitchen/bathroom floor as well as a hearth brush and pan. What a disappointment because the bristles seem to be more stiff than what I had and when I sweep I find little bits of crumbs for instance jumping all over the place. It's the same with the hearth brush I use for getting crumbs etc onto the pan. The items were not expensive at around theby Chris - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

Re: Tried ChatGPT? - 6 months ago
I know next to nothing about ChatGPT and would like to familiarise myself a bit more. Do I just go into the AppStore and download it? If there are several versions, is there one you would recommend? Is it fairly straightforward for this Luddite? It sounds interesting and I am looking forward to exploring. Thank you.by Chris - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: Pita Bread - or is it Splita Bread? - 7 months ago
I have no recommendation for you but also noticed that frequently one half of a pita is really thin and just tears when trying to open it up. I will be looking up recipes because I understand that it's quite easy to make your own. I will try it at least once.by Chris - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: cheese sauce for lasagne - 8 months ago
Lyn, if you google Lasagne with ricotta you’ll see a few recipes that look nice that also use a meat sauce as well. I sometimes make a vegetarian lasagne and use ricotta mixed with Parmesan for more flavour as a layer between the vegetables. There is no need to waste it.by Chris - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: organic free range chicken - 8 months ago
Griz,I adjust for weight as per Nagi’s notes but I have not left them in the liquid to cool down as she doesn’t do it. I will try that next to see if it makes a difference. Do you pop them in the fridge for cooling down? My kitchen is pretty warm.by Chris - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: organic free range chicken - 8 months ago
Karena, thanks for your thoughts regarding tougher organic chicken breasts. I, too buy the organic ones if I can and I have been trying to poach chicken breasts for shredding three times now, following one recipe (Recipe Tin Eats) twice and one other but very similar one just once. The breasts looked great when done but on each occasion they were a bit tough and not succulent like described.by Chris - Foodlovers Food Talk

How exciting, Griz. Unfortunately a bit too far and expensive for me from Wanaka. I take it you'll be going? I will be attending the event vicariously through you. What a great opportunity.by Chris - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

Re: Good news topic - 8 months ago
Heather, thank you for the link to Farina. It makes for interesting reading. I was especially intrigued by the partially underground oven of the bakery and the people who were the bakers. It was interesting to see the read earth of the camp ground. It reminded me of my first flight to Singapore via Brisbane. I recall seeing so much red earth when at some stage the plane was flying very low, I hby Chris - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Kleenex Tissues - 8 months ago
For many years now I have been buying Kleenex Tissues Thick & Large and for the last few month I had the impression that they got thinner and therefore don’t do the job as they used to. There are still three layers but the tissues get soggy really fast. The feel is quite different to me. Perhaps I am mistaken but I wonder if anyone else is using these particular tissues and has noticed a difby Chris - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

Re: Plastic Bags - 9 months ago
Irene and Danube, thank you for your responses. Because I usually bake our bread I don't have bags available although I do save them when I buy the occasional loaf of Vogels and use those for chicken bones etc to put out with the rubbish. Danube, buying freezer bags is a great idea. They are of a good size and they should do nicely since I can reuse them over and over again. Thank you for theby Chris - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: Netflix - 9 months ago
Last night we watched a very sad movie on Netflix called The Day Will Come. The movie is based on true incidents that led to an inquiry by the Danish State into abuse allegations in their institutions that looked after children who ended up there for a variety of reasons. The cruelty by staff towards those in their care was awful to watch and made me think of our Governments's inquiry into the aby Chris - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Plastic Bags - 9 months ago
Up till now I have been re-using the supermarket plastic bags from the vegetable department for storing fruit and veggies in my fridge. I am a bit uncertain how to best store them now that the plastic bags are no longer available. My fridge is just over 10 years old and the vegetable drawers are obviously not of the technology that keeps the produce from drying out. I have a good supply of reuby Chris - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

Dawn, your Walter Lily stamp might raise some interest among Cook Island stamp collectors. As I said, I just can’t work up any enthusiasm to deal with the stampsI have collected. Yes,it was a nice hobby when I was at school and I enjoyed itby Chris - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: What's your hobby besides cooking? - 9 months ago
Dawn, I forgot about collecting stamps when I was a child. I have two albums tucked away in a drawer. Have not looked at them in a very long time. Perhaps some might even have reached a value of a dollar or two since a few of them are from the time of the Second World War. I’ll leave that to find out by whoever will be throwing my bits and pieces away when I have shuffled off. The way thingsby Chris - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
