Yes, last night made flat breads from flour and greek yogurt, so...easy and really good. To go along with made from scratch falafels, using soaked not canned chickpeas again yum. Easy and tasty dinner. Just trying feijoa jelly, 1st batch I burnt...should have trusted instincts, rather than the recipe as written! Re: What sort of things do you freeze? - 4 years ago
Yeast, is a good tip, I seem to use lots or none. I have put my wholemeal flour into a container then into freezer. Buy bug bags of flaked Almonds at gilmores and freeze. Definitely fresh ginger. Whole kaffia limes off tree, use the zest for curries.by Karen - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Whipped feta - 4 years ago
Just whipped up a batch yesterday, but added greek oregano to it, and yogurt instead of sour cream. Very addictive. Added chilli sauce to some to serve with Quesadillas.by Karen - Foodlovers Food Talk

Kato sauces - 4 years ago
Does anyone know who produces the Kato sauces? I would love to contact them regards one of their older sauce ranges Chemoula. I have just purchased the Zarbo one and to say I am disappointed is an understatement. If I hadn't paid so much for it I would throw it away!by Karen - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Jackfruit - 4 years ago
Chris i just make the jackfruit part of the recipe. I buy the Aroy-d young green jackfruit in brine from an Asian supermarket., bigger tins than the ceres.by Karen - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Jackfruit - 4 years ago
Not a curry recipe but uses the tinned jackfruit. This is really good. I don't have liquid smoke, but use extra smoked paprika.by Karen - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Food show - 4 years ago
I ended up going on the Sunday, not too bad crowd wise! Bought a few things, trickett's walnut oil, and Sone's secret sauce, a thai style dressing, that is made in paraparaumu, and a couple of Quorn products, that were cheaper than the supermarket. Helen if you are trying to cut down meat, the "mince" is really good in a shepherds pie style dish, especially topped with a cauli mash.by Karen - Foodlovers Food Talk

Re: Menu planning - 4 years ago
I try to "plan" dinners, I find if I only plan a couple of meals and shop for these, i can freestyle for a couple more dishes so i use up all the fresh bits. last week we had Roast dinner, cauli cheese, mushroom risotto balls Leftovers reheated next night spinach feta mushroom pie, veggie shepherds pie with cauliflower mash top. Roast pumpkin from roast used in spinach sby Karen - Foodlovers Food Talk

Soy sauce - 4 years ago
Just wondering what soy sauces people used, and thought were the best? We probably use ours mostly for cooking, and occasionally for a dipping sauce. Now we have access to lots of Asian, shops the choice is overwhelming..by Karen - Foodlovers Food Talk

Re: Slow Cookers - 5 years ago
Hubby bought me a fast slow breville cooker, which has turned out to be an expensive rice cooker!! I have used it to make a risotto, which was pretty good. Must try and utilise a little more. Agreed with the muting of flavours not sure why?by Karen - Foodlovers Food Talk

Re: Courgettes and cucumbers! - 5 years ago
I spiralize our courgettes and use instead of pasta a bit hit in our house. Even my hubby who is not fussed on pasta happily eats and cooks them. Also made some lovely fritters using courgettes and cauli. I feel you could easily season these up with curry or other spices. Need to make another batch and trial freezing them.by Karen - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Christmas Day successes and failures! - 5 years ago
I made a gorgeuos vegetarian pie Spinach, chestnut and blue cheese, with a sauce. Had to make my own chestnut puree, and ran out of leeks so used shallots in the sauce. Faliure was defrosting and opening the pastry to find it was all broken up in packaging! Managed to press it together, but not pretty.by Karen - Foodlovers Food Talk
