Re: Flavourless Oil - 10 years ago
Hi, To the peanut oil experts - As I buying my annual hoard of pics peanut butter, I noted they now have peanut oil for sale. 10.00 for 250 mls. Any thoughts on its quality and whether its good peanut oil. Thanks in advance.by Plates - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Rising property prices - 10 years ago
I think this is a hard one to pick, but I do think first home buyers focus too much on what they cant have rather that focussing on achievable goals and then end up doing nothing or giving up on home owning. Even 11 years ago when house hunting.....the house that eventually got settled was cold, damp, and structurally in poor form, but it turned out that was the type of house that was affordabby Plates - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

Re: Butter Crock - 10 years ago
This post has got me thinking about the old fridges with butter conditioners I wonder if there will be a turnaround given the increase in people (not scientific) reverting back to butter as margarines are becoming less popular.by Plates - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Sunflowers - Getting the seeds - 10 years ago
thanks, I take your point. I want the showy flowers ultimately. I'll do some research and see if I can cut the sunflower off and preserve the seeds that way.by Plates - Garden Lovers Forum
Sunflowers - Getting the seeds - 10 years ago
Hi I planted some sunflowers in November, and from the end of January, they have flowered, some are quite large, and in general they look stunning. I want to keep the seeds for planting another lot this year, and wanted some practical advice on how do this. I have googled, however, the advice is to put a paper bag over the flower etc, and that would just look odd - they are in full vieby Plates - Garden Lovers Forum
Re: Customs on overseas purchases - 10 years ago
The $60 is threshold is GST and duties, so the limit will depend on what your purchasing. - You can use this tool to estimate any fees before order This is also a good summary - I am not aware of any changes to the current status.......I just purchased some footwear that was 100% cheaper even when shipping is accounted for......they will need to change the scheme a lot before peopleby Plates - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

Re: Curry Leaf Tree - 10 years ago
My plant had a 2-3 stems on it with leaves when I got it in late 2011/early 2012. I used it immediately, and I never thought anything of it. When it was getting no new stems, I had thought it was going to die, as the unused leaves looked a bit sad, but since spring 2013, its done really well. It has loads of stems on it, and a few new shoots can be seen still. So I would say, keep in a mostby Plates - Garden Lovers Forum
Re: Ideas on keeping valuables safe while in hospital - 10 years ago
That's is true, but I just cant see what someone gets out of stealing them, unless the tracking apps aren't widely used, but I don't know anyone who has not made these settings.by Plates - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: Ideas on keeping valuables safe while in hospital - 10 years ago
Yes. Most if not all smartphones have "find me" functions, so you can access the location of the device on the internet. I have a windows phone - all my pics upload to "skydrive". I can also use "find my phone" function by signing onto windowslive.com. Apple devices have something similar.by Plates - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

Re: Duvet Covers - 10 years ago
I don't spread anything out....I just "gather" the duvet cover from one bottom corner to the top corner, (sort of like when you put on stocking or tights) and then position the same corner of the inner into the corner of the cover, then put this down safely so it stays in position, then do the same with the opposite side. Grip both corners and shake. It takes about 5 minutes and I amby Plates - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: Compost Bins - 10 years ago
I am also interested. I have seen the ones in Mitre 10, but they seem small. I repositioned mine over concrete and that got rid of the rats. I know that's not correct though, but its has worked for me, and the compost seems fine, but is very hard to mix, hence was thinking about a tumbling one.by Plates - Garden Lovers Forum
Re: Curry Leaf Tree - 10 years ago
I have one. They are very slow growing, and only seem to show signs of doing anything in the warmer months. I have mine in quite a big pot,as the root that develops is long and spirals. It sits on a back porch which gets a lot of sun. Its great though, to pick fresh curry leaves, temper them immediately and add to the cooking.by Plates - Garden Lovers Forum

Re: Organic or not organic...that is the question? - 10 years ago
I would prefer to buy organic simply to prevent intake of pesticides, that said, cant afford to, so I usually buy non-organic vege and assume the cooking process will kill anything........with fruit, I TRY and buy organic berries or grapes as they are hard to wash well, but refuse to get hung up on it if not. Rest of fruits, I just tend to buy non-organic.by Plates - Foodlovers Food Talk

Robotic Vacuum Cleaners - 10 years ago
Can anyone comment from experience - the good, bad, thinngs to watch for, and would you recommend? About half the house is hardwood flooring or lino. The dust accumulates under the bed and its a mission to clean under with a vacuum. The bathroom is quite small, and its difficult manoevouring the vacuum. ChrisD, thanks for the snopes article, that was a good read. TPANDAV......I have purchased some avocado, but its price prohibitive to use for every day cooking. I generally just keep it for when just a teaspoon or so is required.by Plates - Foodlovers Food Talk
