foodlovers store specials - 17 years ago
My house is too full of stock and some of it just has to go. Check out the specials in the store which will keep appearing as I go through stock and work out what there is to get rid of. Saha by Greg Malouf is at a great price of $50 - retail being $79.95by helen - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Girl's 1st birthday present - 17 years ago
I love the idea of a gift for the parents - would have been really happy with that. Our children are 4, 3 and 18 months and the amount of toys in our house is just awful, kids seem to get given so much and I thought I was quite sensible. I think books are fantastic, even if they are too complicated for her to be interested in now they are great to put away for a year or twos time. Also aby helen - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

Re: a foodlovers dinner in auckland ? - 17 years ago
I am hugely apologetic for my no show and have no better excuse than I completely forgot. We have had a huge week which included the death and funeral of a teenage friend, moving house, Ed with a virus which knocked him off his feet etc... I really am sad to have missed out and would really like to join in next time!by helen - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

le creuset over flow - 17 years ago
I have just bought a pile of le creuset round casseroles at a very good price which are now stacked in my hall way.... I need to get them out so have reduced the price check out the store - we have 24 cm, 26 cm and 28 cm round all discounted. For those that purchased recently I assure you I didn't realise I was going to get these in at this time.by helen - Foodlovers Food Talk

Re: I always slice meat before I cook it, some recipes slice it after? - 17 years ago
For many dishes I cook meat in a piece and then slice it. Chicken breast for one is much more moist and tender if you cook and then slice. I like the melting middle of meat cooked in a whole piece. Obviously for stir fries etc.. I slice first, depends on the recipe.by helen - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Recipes incorporating chilli and lime (juice) together - 17 years ago
Many Mexican and Asian recipes have both of these ingredients in them. Guacomole is my first thought although avocadoes are currently not in seasona and therefore expensive and not great quality. Cathy's Asian chicken on the foodlovers recipe search has both as does duck salad, chicken tortilla wraps, Thai beef salad.... Prawns are also lovely with chilli and lime.by helen - Foodlovers Food Talk

iodised salt vs plain salt - 17 years ago
I am not sure why I don't know the answer to this and it is probably very logical. Why do recipes for preserving lemons, chutneys etc... say plain table salt as opposed to iodised salt? Is the iodine going to affect the end result? I have never used it in this situation but just curious.by helen - Foodlovers Food Talk

How are people enjoying their samples of Seven Coffee? I am assuming of course that you have found them on the foodlovers market and registered on their website and have had your free sample sent out to you Remember too that Seven Coffee are organic and fair trade.by helen - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Strange goings on at supermarket?? - 17 years ago
I haven't as yet bought Heuvels - are they really that good to warrant the extra cost? I always buy free range out of ethical issues but haven't bought organic. Is the flavour or Heuvels that much better?by helen - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

Re: photo developing - 17 years ago
All good advice thanks Bev. Yes the beauty of digital cameras is the fun family snaps. I take loads of photos of the kids but in 3/4 of them someone has their eyes shut or has moved out of the shot before I get it. With digital it enables you to discard most of them and develop those that are good. As most of my photos are of the kids - well to be truthful probably all of them, I will stick tby helen - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

Re: photo developing - 17 years ago
I print loads of photos as I love having albums and think it is lovely for the children to have their own album record of their life. I definitely prefer having them in albums than on the computer. I am about to get someone out who is currently getting back into life after an accident and he is going to get all my photos onto discs and labelled as I have been really neglectful. Stephanie you often put the pod in your mouth and then close your teeth and pull the pod out - therefore the beans pop out into your mouth. We often have them as starters at Japanese restaurants.by helen - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Questions re: Endamame - 17 years ago
Chemicals are one thing but what about the water used for irrigation - do you think it would have human effluence...? Oh now I am souding quite ridiculous I guess.... We do eat loads of edamame but after the discussion on Chinese grown garlic I started to question the growing conditions.by helen - Foodlovers Food Talk
