Re: Cheese wedding cake - 8 years ago
What a smart idea! How would it be cost wise? A club I am in had a 25th anniversary so we had a huge iced cake. Less than a quarter of it got eaten, but I bet if it was cheese it would have all gone. Super good thinking.by Ali W - Foodlovers Food Talk
Monte Carlo biscuits - 8 years ago
Has anyone got a really nice recipe for Monte Carlo biscuits? I have been asked to make some for a friend and there seems to be so many recipes on the net - most of them saying that this recipe is the very best. I like the idea of coconut in it and am looking for a shortbread type biscuit rather than an a whoopie pie texture. Would appreciate any help Thanksby Ali W - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Citrus Layer Cake - 8 years ago
Griz, do you usually make the cake in 4 pans? If it was made in a deep tin and cut later, how long should the baking time be? It looks a lovely cakeby Ali W - Foodlovers Food Talk

Re: Fortune Cookies - 8 years ago
I have! They are such fun. The recipe is basically a tuille mixture - egg white, icing sugar and a little flour etc. You fold them in half (with typed fortune inside) then bend them over the edge of a glass. Leave to cool. They do go soft though and when I made them once as part of an icebreaker with clues inside, I noticed heaps of uneaten cookies on the tables, A little disappointing as tby Ali W - Foodlovers Food Talk

On my ipad I can never get to the forums on the first go. It always reloads the whole site and then I can have a second go. It is frustrating and I often can't be bothered with the hassle.by Ali W - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

Re: Strange............... - 8 years ago
Not many flies here in Rotorua. But we did set up 2 automatic sprayers that go off every few minutes. Maybe they don't even come into the house with those things going. Whatever works suits me.by Ali W - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

The results of an unmade bed - 8 years ago
I have always "had the snuffles" and regularly get asked if I am getting over a cold. No, It's just hayfever. A few weeks back I read somewhere that one of the best things we could do for our sinuses was to leave the bed pulled back as much as possible. So...I have made sure the open bed is well exposed to the sun each day....and for the first time in memory I am not blowing my nby Ali W - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Ripe - cookbooks - 8 years ago

50th anniversary - 8 years ago
It is our golden wedding anniversary this year - I was young, young, young! Far from wanting a new frock and an afternoon tea - we hope to go to the USA. Hubby wants to show me San Francisco, we have friends to visit in Mojave, then we plan to visit Lawrence Kansas as there is a particular reason. Now.....we don't know whether to drive to Kansas - would take about 3 days, take the Amtrak - 3by Ali W - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

Ever since the website was changed I have had trouble with the site. I have to let it load twice before I can get to the forums - and even then it takes a couple of goes sometimes. I have got used to a really slow load up, so don't go on as often as I used to. Anyone else had problems?by Ali W - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Pay TV - 8 years ago
After 12 years of paying for dozens of channels we never watch, we bit the bullet and canned it from the end of this month. When we signed up there were hardly any ads and the selections seemed to be quite interesting - now the amount of reality programmes is overwhelming - do we really want to follow woolly haired mountain men as they guffaw through another boring day? And so forth. Oneby Ali W - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: What is your cooking resolution for 2016? - 8 years ago
As Marco Pierre White kept saying last week on Masterchef....simple, simple, simple but strong on flavours. I plan to find out what enhances what - like tomato and basil etc and make simple but really tasty food.by Ali W - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Substitution - 8 years ago
Oh happy day.....found Sarsparilla at our local Countdown, along with a lot of other flavoured Bundaberg drinks. I seldom look at the shelves at the supermarket....I shop with a list and only buy what's on it. It's when I pop in for milk that I end up spending $60! Thanks for your helpby Ali W - Foodlovers Food Talk
Substitution - 8 years ago
I have a nice recipe for a chicken dish that has sarsaparilla in it. I remember my mother saying that this was vaguely similar to cola. I don't want to use cola - too much sugar. Any ideas what I could use instead? it needs 375 mils. I have made the dish with just water and balsamic but it lacked punch.by Ali W - Foodlovers Food Talk

Quark - 8 years ago
I have a German friend who is looking for a good recipe for Quark. She tells me it is delicious with strawberries. I have never tried it, but can someone help with a tried and true recipe? Thanksby Ali W - Foodlovers Food Talk
Roast vege salad - 8 years ago
I am going to make a roast vege salad - little cubes of root vegetables plus radishes etc. I need to take it on a car trip so will serve it at room temperature. Can anyone suggest a nice drizzle dressing to go with it? I was wondering about store bought mayo, chipotle or dijon mustard, black pepper, maple syrup & lime juice. What do you think?by Ali W - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Introduce a Christmas dish from afar - 8 years ago
We had Christmas in the USA one year. The main dish was spiral cut ham infused with honey, then served with a salad of jelly with peaches in it. All we needed was some whipped cream and it would have been main and dessert in one hit.by Ali W - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Overnight cinnamon rolls - 8 years ago
Thank you Mrs cake for the recipe....will give it a go next weekend! And no....it definitely wasn't your blog I got the recipe off! Can I put the dough int the fridge overnight? I like cinnamon rolls for a late breakfast.by Ali W - Foodlovers Food Talk
