Re: MenuAid trial - 1 year ago
Hello Helen I just wanted to thank you and your team for your generosity in giving the Foodlovers members a free trial of Menuaid. All the very best for your venture and I do hope the hard work pays off for you. Kindest regards Ali Wby Ali W - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Fruit Cake Recipe - 1 year ago
Hi Chris Glad you found the recipe. It was indeed me who posted it, with permission off a blog. Still making it, but my husband is more generous with sharing these days. Enjoy. Ali Wby Ali W - Foodlovers Food Talk

You have to see the funny side - 2 years ago
Aa I told you previously, hubby took over the kitchen while my broken elbow healed. I am pleased with my progress and drove the car for the first time today. He so enjoyed cooking that he wanted to keep going. Oh yay I thought - I don't mind chilling and anticipating my dinner. Alas, this morning while enjoying a walk around The Blue Lake a couple of speeding dogs bowled him down a bank.by Ali W - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: My man in the kitchen - 2 years ago
The pie tasted as good as it looked. Simple mashed vege and peas - a good kiwi meal! Followed with a cup of tea and a slice of gingerbread which he made at the weekend following my instructions. All the compliments and he is getting a bit smug! He laughed and said “I'll be set up now, all the ladies will flock after me”. J1, I also have a round, dark wire wavy cake rack, which was myby Ali W - Foodlovers Food Talk
My man in the kitchen - 2 years ago
I broke my elbow a few weeks back and hubby has done everything for me without complaint. He even blowdried my hair while I gritted my teeth and gently suggested that the hot air might be more effective if aimed at my head rather than the ceiling! We have had some laughs together. Today he decided to make something from his Southern Man cookbook which he has owned for years but never reallyby Ali W - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Rock Cakes - 2 years ago
Many years ago in Hamilton it was the done thing to enter baking into the Waikato Winter show - there were lots of other handcraft competitions too, knitting, embroidery and so forth. It was a big deal. My mother was very successful and after many years of winning lots of prizes for her baking using a coal range, the local paper came to interview her (and my dad). They asked if he was a happby Ali W - Foodlovers Food Talk
Covid inoculation cards - 2 years ago
Just a word of caution. If you are considering laminating your completed vaccine cards - do not. A lot of the centres are using Frixion pens which cause writing to disappear with heat, as a colleague found out the hard way. They are using the pens in case they need to change appointment dates etc. Just take a photo of the card with your phone. Updated lenses - 2 years ago
After 8 years and 3 eye tests later, I needed to update my prescription. Not really liking the new shape of spectacles (I keep thinking mildly Dame Edna Everidge) I asked if I could keep my current frames as I still really like them. Not a problem. Well, I picked them up on Wednesday and boy oh boy what a difference. I almost don't need my hobby specs for hand sewing. So happy. With suchby Ali W - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Just being - 3 years ago
Yesterday I went with 5 friends on a day trip to another city. Two carloads drove separately and stopped independently for coffee. When I am with my husband on a trip we just go and get there without stops unless necessary. I thoroughly enjoyed the time sitting in a group in the sun while we sipped and chatted. There was no hurry. After we went to our planned event we sat again over lunchby Ali W - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Takeaway Food - 3 years ago
I was talking to a person this morning who admitted that they have bought morning tea, lunch and dinner. And it is takeaways and lunch-bar food. It has been on my mind all day, as I peeled the potatoes to mash, stir fried the veges and warmed the leftover lamb and gravy. That took under 30 minutes from start to finish and we enjoyed a nourishing, tasty meal. Nothing fancy, but nice. Notby Ali W - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: You Know You Are Getting Older When ..... - 3 years ago
And we can still sing along remembering most of the words. I think a lot of us have our feet in that era but are sort of cross overs as we enjoy artists like Adele, Ed Sheeran, George Ezra and Pink. It's viewing habits too - I still enjoy a good British drama series, but wonder what young people watch - a 22 year old work colleague told me that most young people don't watch mainstream tv becaby Ali W - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

Easy Tasty recipe that goes a long way - 3 years ago
I found the following recipe and have made it a couple of times. I cut it down for the two of us and used 1 chicken breast which still gives us 6 single meals. It would be good for a potluck too.by Ali W - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Posting a recipe from a website - 3 years ago
Hello and thanks for the responses. Irene I have looked and looked and can't find what you are referring to. I just wanted to post the link to the recipe without it being half way across the dialogue box. As an aside we went to Ohakune today to meet up with family, the mountains were awesome in the true sense, so imposing with very little snow on them.by Ali W - Foodlovers Food Talk

I think I have asked this before, but in trying to find the posting I couldn't think what to search for. I have a nice recipe I would like to share, but how do I copy and paste it from the website in a nice shortened version? I use an Ipad. Thanksby Ali W - Foodlovers Food Talk
Embrace - the documentary - 3 years ago
I have just watched a documentary on Netflix called Embrace. A lovely Aussie mum of three hated her post baby body, so a personal trainer friend offered to train her to get in shape enough to enter a body building competition. This was at a huge cost to her family life, and afterwards she realised that this could send the wrong message to her daughter as she grew up. The strict diet etc went ouby Ali W - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: Apple and date chutney - 3 years ago
Too right and will add a note to let it mature for a month. Gosh I am getting short of jars as a lot of things come in plastic these days. Will just have to buy more of those gorgeous French spreads with the chequered lids!by Ali W - Foodlovers Food Talk
Apple and date chutney - 3 years ago
We are into the chutney making it seems. A large bag of apples was brought into the staff room a week ago, home grown with a few flaws here and there. Today I got permission from the donor to bring the whole bag home to cook up, i can't bear to see them wasted just sitting there creating little interest. I'll be busy tomorrow!by Ali W - Foodlovers Food Talk

Re: Rhubarb Chutney - 3 years ago
Hello Stephanie The chutney is a brownish colour - I guess from the other ingredients in the mix. Tastes pretty good though. Can't share the recipe in fairness to the author of the book it is in. When I cook rhubarb for dessert I roast it in the oven (covered) with sugar and vanilla. Then it is a beautiful colour with thick clear pink juice.by Ali W - Foodlovers Food Talk

Re: Come on people - 3 years ago
Thank you Heather....it has been so much harder for our Aussie friends this past year. It is good to share our feelings sometimes and if something posted here causes someone to pause and reflect, to spare a thought for others or to have a wee laugh then that is what it is all about. The heading of this forum does say “chat”, so that is what I was trying to get people to think about. I hopeby Ali W - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Talent that should be hidden - 3 years ago
I was laughing at Marnie's post re writing for children. During the Level 4 lockdown last year I started writing short stories, mainly about things I had seen in the street or when we were out walking i.e.I saw two NZ Post carts together and had a vision of them racing down the road while there were no cars about....and so on. It was such fun with little else to do and I would release themby Ali W - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
