Barbara & Chris that’s more or less wha5 mine is a large one though with a sliding door, I love it because everything is there set up ready to go.by Lyn V - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Has anyone designed a new kitchen? - 2 years ago
I don’t like clutter on my bench, hence the walk in pantry. Everything is in it’s place there & so easy to get to it has a sliding door if needed to shut it off, I rarely use it. I couldn’t imagine having my toaster, jug, appliances etc on view as we have open plan. I don’t want to put those sort of things in cupboards only to be always pulling out as needed.by Lyn V - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Spaghetti with roasted cauliflower etc.. - 2 years ago
This recipe appeals to me as I have my family for Monday dinners & 4 of the 9 are vegetarians so it sounds great, I will try & think about what sauce to put to it as they love their sauces so let’s challenge this & see what sauces others would come up with. All I have to do for the meat lovers is to add any meat on the side eg, steak, lamb chops etc. Helen, it’s great full of thingby Lyn V - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Has anyone designed a new kitchen? - 2 years ago
I do agree with TPANDAV the two narrow cupboards on either side of oven are very useful, I also have a shelf above mine that I have a basket in for the immediate cooking oil, soya sauce that I quickly want. The other one is another basket which my husband has his breakfast things in he just pulls it out. Contains his honey, vitamins etc. I have had a lazy Susan & whilst I found the idea gooby Lyn V - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Has anyone designed a new kitchen? - 2 years ago
I have had a few new kitchens over my years & I love the one I have now. It has a walk in pantry for appliances, no sink but as I don’t use my microwave often it is there too. It has drawers for cans which lie down so I can see what they are instantly this is a great idea. Another drawer for rice, pasta etc & one for baking tins etc. on the bench top are the toaster, coffee machine, electby Lyn V - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Pumpkin disappointing lack of flavour - 2 years ago
TPANDAV, do you buy the seeds for these pumpkins? We had 2 of the very large grey ones self seeded from our compost & and we left them for ages & they were beautiful. We don’t have a large garden area so they did overtake a bit but worth it.by Lyn V - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Quail eggs - 2 years ago
Will try that thanks, today I cracked 4 into a bowl & then slid them into a pan with a little butter & put on top of some left over mashed potatoes that I heated, delicious.by Lyn V - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Pumpkin disappointing lack of flavour - 2 years ago
We had a self seeding one & it was really delicious. Instead of throwing it away why not add some spices to it, pumpkin can have such a great variety added & it really does enhance the flavours. Even a jar of spicy well flavoured jar of chutney or similar, chiili sauce etc. you may be plesently surprised.by Lyn V - Foodlovers Food Talk

Rubber seals for a pressure cooker - 2 years ago
I have a Fagor pressure cooker that needs a new seal & I am struggling to get one in NZ. My last one came from someone in Hamilton but cannot find any there now he may be out of business. Does anyone know where I might buy one in NZ please?by Lyn V - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Helens crunchy shortbread - 2 years ago
Well Helen today I decided to make your shortbread which I have done countless times, it is soo.. good. Today I don't know where my brain was but in my Kenwood mixer I put butter & sugar along with flour etc then, I realised my mistake oh dear, so I emptied the whole lot into my blender & away it went, whirling around 19 to the dozen & hey presto success. It all blended well after aby Lyn V - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Raspberry Vinegar - 2 years ago
Yes, Helen it is. I looked up here to buy it & I think Sabato & probably Farro's I need more so will check out soon. I think the brand, it has Gianni Caloguiu, product of Italy. Vincotto 1825. Hope that helps. No colouring Low acidity.by Lyn V - Foodlovers Food Talk
Raspberry Vinegar - 2 years ago
I was given a small bottle of this & I just want to say how lovely it is with salads, haven’t tried it with anything else & was wondering if anyone else has. It really is very tasty, the brand is Vinc....o, hope you get that.!!by Lyn V - Foodlovers Food Talk

Re: Washing Black dressing Gown. - 2 years ago
I too would agree with Fleur give your machine a cleaning cycle & see what happens. Otherwise put it into a pillow case & wash that way.by Lyn V - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: Rubbing butter - 2 years ago
I too grate the butter in but never thought of the flour trick, thanks for that. I remember my aunt who was a great baker always whipped the butter & sugar together with her hand, looked very messy but her baking was amazing.by Lyn V - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Non Stick Pans - 2 years ago
Mine does too Irene & it is an expensive one in fact I have had another brand & it did too. There’s a lot going for non stick as far as easy slide, cleaning etc but you can’t beat the old cast iron ones. For me they are too heavy now for my arthritic hands so for steak & the likes hubbie comes in handy.by Lyn V - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: come on people #2 - 2 years ago
Last night on TV 1 was a short programme on a train ride a couple started through that area & the Whangamomona hotel area, it was very interesting. I don’t know what it was called but it was on early. They started it because there was an unused railway line going through the hills & thought it a great venture. It is up for sale now. You go through Taumarunui township which is really lovelby Lyn V - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: come on people #2 - 2 years ago
We live in Red Beach, Auckland & have a motor home & so we have been tripping around the north Island , first up to Cape Reinga with lots of stops on the way to places we have never been. Then came home for a week & went down the East Coast via Taupo to Gisborne going into all these beautiful beaches along the way. Mostly we freedom camped as we are fully self contained but now &by Lyn V - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: Chilli Tomato Sauce - 2 years ago
The correct measurements are here now, I do use 1/4 cup sugar, it's 2 tbs ginger, so very sorry I usually go over recipes when passing them on. Everything else is correct, just checked. It is certainly a really nice sauce & one of my families favourites. I preserve a lot when tomatoes are cheapest but we usually grow them for this recipe.by Lyn V - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Tray Bakes - 2 years ago
I'm with you Irene would like another name make it Kiwi style then not Americanised. Onesies made me smile too but probably not appropriate. I really like meals prepared this way all flavours intermingling, so easy not a lot of clean up, so over too many dishes to wash up.by Lyn V - Foodlovers Food Talk

Chilli Tomato Sauce - 3 years ago
This is a recipe that has been a family favourite for quite some years, I use it over chicken or pork belly that has been marinated & cooked then cubed, then put meat on a bed of rice & pour the Tomato Sauce over the top can be served with a salad. Plunge 8 large tomatoes in hot water to soften skins. Peel & chop small, take out core but use any juices that run off. In a large potby Lyn V - Foodlovers Food Talk

That sounds amazing Irene, I love the South Island, my ancestors are from Stewart island & Taieri Mouth, my mum from the Catlins, stunning scenery, lots of native walks. You will just be enthralled. It’s my favourite place to go. Safe travels & do send me some pictures on msg.by Lyn V - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

Re: Miss Benson's beetle - 3 years ago
That sounds a great read Helen, I will get it but not the flu’ side of it. Have just had a 2 week stint up to Cape Reinga, home for a week then down the East Cape to Napier, Gisborne across to The Forgotten Highway, New Plymouth, Hamilton & home today. Thought I might have done more reading & told you of some goodies but no too busy exploring & going to bed exhausted, didn’t even finiby Lyn V - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
