Any better name suggestions? October 29, 2019 07:23AM |

I have just made a savoury zucchini feta and ricotta "cake".
We took a pic of it today and I have written a recipe to go with it but I don't like the name "cake".
Its not a quiche, nor a tart but is there another word that is alluding me?
It is made in a spring form tin, it has some flour in it along with egg. It is something that is firm and you cut into wedges and serve warm or at room temperature.
Ottolenghi has a Cauliflower Cake which is similar but the name cake just irritates me when it is savoury.
I may have to use it but hoping not.

Hi Helen. Just some suggestions:
"Savoury Zucchini Cheesecake", although you would still have the word cake there!
What about "Zucchini, Feta and Ricotta Gateau".
What about "Zucchini, Feta and Ricotta Savoury".
Or "Zucchini, Feta and Ricotta Round"
"Zucchini, Feta and Ricotta Circle" (or Square).
Regards,
Dawn.

Yes I think it does have too much flour for a torta and it is also deeper and firmer.
Yes it is quite like a savoury cheesecake of sorts but I just wanted it to have a different connotation than a cake or cheesecake.
I do like Savoury or Round but do they tell you what you are getting do you think?
What do others think of the word cake in relation to something savoury?
It may be just me that finds it odd and in which case I should run with it.

I feel like its a loaf but clearly loaf denotes the shape such as a meatloaf.
If it was in a different tin, you could totally get away with it. ;-)
What about a zucchini feta and ricotta bread? Maybe its too eggy for a bread?
Arghhhh its a hard one, I even googled synonyms for cake but Im stumped!
Vanessa
PS - I like zucchini feta and ricotta savoury.
The ingredients and picture give it away and let me know what to expect and find the work cake a bit misleading and less appealing.

I agree with the name Savoury - it's the clearest in meaning. However, a search of the internet reveals these types of recipes are often referred to as "Savoury Cakes". Perhaps, if the recipe does have a significant amount of flour - enough to change it from the eggy expectation of "savoury" or "quiche", then "savoury cake" might be suitable. I'm still left thinking it might have sugar in it though......
We need a new word. Something that covers vegetables/eggs/flour/cheese.

It's floveche, often jokingly referred to as cheflove*, a savoury recipe made with flour, eggs, vegetables and cheese.
Helen's the first person in the world to make a floveche, just as Dominique Ansel was the first person to make a cronut.
*(If you love your chef, you make him/her a floveche, especially on their birthday!)

I know exactly the type of thing you mean, Helen, and the right name for it is eluding me too. I made something similar recently from a trusty Australian Woman's Weekly cookbook, so I just had a look to see what they called it. They termed it a flan - to me a flan (unless a Spanish dessert flan) has a pastry base, but maybe that's just me.

Aargh, it is still a cake. haha.
I don't like frittatas at all so I had a problem with that name and also it has flour in it whereas I think of a frittata like a deep omelette.
You can see it now for yourself Baked Zucchini and Ricotta Cake and you are welcome to tell me if the name is just wrong.

Helen I guess I'm easy to please, but I like the use of the word 'cake'!
Your cake looks delicious and is a recipe I'm going to make when my zucchinis produce.
Regards,
Dawn.
Edited: Just seen Lorna's wheel suggestion and I like that too!

Chris, re auto predict, Do you have the option to turn it off or to change it to auto suggest? I am using a Samsun J8 and it has auto suggest which gives me a choice of a few words above the keyboard and I can select one if I want to. I can't find auto predict on this model phone, whereas on my previous phone, Samsung S3, I had a choice between the two. Auto suggest is so much better than auto predict.
You may also have a choice of keyboards to use and one of them may give the option of auto suggest or predictive text. Do a search

Thank you Lorna, I used my IPad. Will do a search and turn off if I can.
