I want to make bread in my bread maker but it calls for milk powder which I haven’t got. Is it necessary to have.? if so for what reason. Thanks.

If you google what milkpowder does in breadmachine bread you will see that it helps with rising and browning. Powder should be used with a delayed start but apparently you can use fresh milk when mixing and baking straight away. Lots of articles can be found when googling this.

I used to just substitute liquid milk, 2 tbspns I think, for the 1 tbspn of milk powder, and reduce the water quantity by 2 tbspns. I think the effect of the milk, in whatever form, is very minor - you could probably just leave milk out entirely..

Thank you, I have left it out & it is still really nice but will add milk next time & see if there is any difference.
