Lyn, I was intrigued to read that remedy for period cramps. I would imagine that would be right. I don't know what the young ones do now apart from complain rather loudly. A few years ago prior to seeing a specialist, I suffered from dreadful monthly cramps. I found a lavender rub and a wheatbag was the thing that helped me. The pain killers never got rid of that inflamed swollen feeling.
Hope this helps your grand-daughter.

Raewyn, regarding the inflamed swollen feeling, my remedy was to lie on my stomach the coffee table and move my arms & legs in a swimming motion. This seemed to break down the tension in the pelvic area and ease the pain.

There's a low-strength contraceptive pill called Femulen that generally stops you having a period at all - no more pain, no mess, no ruined holidays, no money expenditure on products needed, etc.....

Oh dear Hilary, sounds too good to be true but she is only 12. Mum would most definetely disallow that, I think I will try the ginger & milk idea, if she will take it. Sounds a bit more natural. Not sure about the coffee table one I got a good laugh from the thought of it tho'. I guess we girls have to grin & bear these things. Thanks all anyway I am still open to options.

This is one of the many very helpful sites on menstrual cramps that I found via 'Google':

[womenshealth.about.com]

Most provide suggested herbal remedies as well as various prescription drugs!

Hey, don't laugh at the coffee table idea - it's a genuine natural remedy and works! Well, it did 40 years ago. With modern coffee tables maybe the action is different. Now I'm all hurt and offended, I'll go and crawl into my corner and cry. winking smiley

That coffee table position is supposed to work for colic in babies, too. Only they're held in that position on the parent's arm or leg.

The reason for using the coffee table is to allow arm and leg movement which you wouldn't have lying on the floor. And it works......... winking smiley Lyn.

Raspberry leaf tea with perhaps some camomile and honey .Soothing and helps really well if taken a few days before the problem starts .Can be great for heavy days .I always dried the leaves from my raspberry bushes as it saved me having to buy them and I knew where they came from .

Gentle stretching as above but perhaps without the coffee table is great too as it gets circulation going .Try similar things across a beanbag .
I will gulp down my embarrassment and tell anyone who suffers from this aweful problem what has helped me. its called 'horny goats weed for her' and its a libido enhancer and a hormone balancer. I did not get it to alleviate period pain, more for exaustionwinking smiley! But it not only alleviates the period pain but it also levels my moods. And kicks pmt in the but!!!
If you can get over the emabarrassment of the name it is well worth trying.
kind Regards
