Disposable gifts - 9 years ago
This Christmas our family has decided to give each other disposable presents to the value of $30. I can think of: food, wine, magazines, scratchies, lotto tickets, body products. And then I run out. Anyone else got any ideas?by Ali W - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Lookers and not contributors - 9 years ago
I have been checking the lookers at the topics against the contributors. some threads have dozens of lookers and hardly anyone offering a post. If we were all just lookers it wouldn't be much of a forum.by Ali W - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Annabelle Langbein's Show - 9 years ago
I think Annabelle Langbein has a wonderful TV presence and seems a genuine lady, however, I am disappointed in the latest series and book. I have several of her books which I use but will not be tempted with the newest. We had a dinner party last night and the other guests felt like me - just nothing exciting there. Anyone else feel like we are watching an advertorial?by Ali W - Foodlovers Food Talk
Route 66 - 9 years ago
Has anyone driven this? I know there are lots of websites with advice, but I would love to hear from someone who has actually done it. Just thinking about it at this stage.by Ali W - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: The demise of good manners - 9 years ago
Thank you for your understanding. I discussed the matter with a work colleague and she said that people just do not care these days. My work frIend also said to keep my resolve to step away to mind if asked to organise an event again. The ones who are "too busy" to do anything are often the most vocal. I still feel like I have been through a battle - so emotionally fragile! Betby Ali W - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
The demise of good manners - 9 years ago
Am I old fashioned, but has anyone else noticed how often politeness and thoughtfulness seem to fly out the window. I was the principle organiser of a semi casual event that took quite a bit of planning, phone calls, computer time, shopping and so forth. I was to arrange guest speakers and thought that as a fun alternative for one slot we could have a singer whose repertoire was from our teby Ali W - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: Adelaide - 9 years ago
Last night in Adelaide and we have loved every minute. It is as beautiful as everyone said. 26 deg today and we finished off our holiday at Henley Beach, watching the locals swimming, fishing and enjoying the gorgeous day. Such happy memories to be taking home. Hear it's been cold there! Back to reality and to start saving for the next holiday! Aliby Ali W - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

Flavours for my stir frys - 9 years ago
I like to cook some rice. Then fry off chopped onion, grated carrot, parsnip and finely chopped cauliflower or brocolli. Cook some chicken, slice and toss that in, add the rice and stir. BUT......what flavours should I add. I put in salt and pepper, a little ginger and herb salt, maybe some ABC sauce, but it still lacks that yum flavour. Any suggestions? Oil smell in clothing - 10 years ago
I had the oil polishing cloth soaking and my husband popped it into the wqshing machine with some clothes - including my favourite top! Grrrr. I have done everything I can think of to get the oily smell out of the clothes. Any suggestions?by Ali W - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Jack and the Apple TV - 10 years ago
Our dog Jack whines and trembles every time we use our Apple TV. For those who are unsure what that is - it is a device that allows us to mirror our Apple devices (Mac computer, I pad) through our TV. Jack can be snoring happily but is instantly on his feet pawing at us when we make the switchover. I have tried to google for an answer with out success. We are wondering if there is a whistby Ali W - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

Any knitters out there who have made Levenwick by Gudrun Johnston off Revelry? I am rather taken with it but would love an opinion first. Thanksby Ali W - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

Re: The Boys in the Boat - Book - 10 years ago
I was so excited to hear about this book. My husband was a rower in his youth so this will be perfect for his Christmas present. Thank you Helen. How do people find interesting books? I am always the last to know it seems. Peachesby Ali W - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: What Cake Mixer to buy? - 10 years ago
I would like to know where Kenwood are manufactured these days. I have had mine since 1978 but the new ones don't look half as solid. It's like any product - don't assume the name is the same quality as it used to be. I'm replacing mine with a Kitchen Aid when the time comes.by Ali W - Foodlovers Food Talk

Re: The Cast Iron Cookware?? - 11 years ago
My casserole is really heavy and with food in it I have to think differently about handling it. I think next time I will get my husband to do the manouvering in and out of the oven. I actually don't notice any difference in the cooking with this casserole and my smaller Temuka pottery one.by Ali W - Foodlovers Food Talk

Paraparumu and Waikanae - 11 years ago
We are thinking we might move to this area to retire. We will have funds for a house in the low to mid $300k. Can someone tell me the better housing areas around there - or maybe the areas to avoid might be more useful. We are not looking to live in a retirement village. Thanks Peachsby Ali W - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Orange vinegerette - 11 years ago
I saw a recipe in Peter Gordon's newspaper column and as I have an orange tree, thought I would gve it a go. Now, don't laugh za but what canI do with it? It has a sharp orange taste with sweet undertones - reasonably thick too. Grateful for any suggestions.by Ali W - Foodlovers Food Talk
Orange Vinegar - 11 years ago
Peter Gordon's recipe for this was in one of the weekend papers - it made me think of the Strawberry Vinegar we made several yers ago - courtesy of Donna. I am keen to make the orange vimegar, but other than as a dressing for salads I am wondering what else to use it for. Any ideas? Peachesby Ali W - Foodlovers Food Talk

Anyone got a Parmco gas hob? - 11 years ago
We need to replace ourhob, so are going with gas. Got a price for Bosch - very expensive, but have done a whip around the web and Parmco comes up! Would love to hear from anyone who has a Parmco hob - they are half the price of Bosch. Peachesby Ali W - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: Kitchen Aid or Magimix Food processor? - 11 years ago
My husband found a super internet special on the KitchenAid - our local dealer matched it, taking a whopping discount off, so I now own a fire engine red KA.by Ali W - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Kitchen Aid or Magimix Food processor? - 11 years ago
I know this has been discussed before and have read the previous threads, but can anyone give me an updated opinion on which I should buy. After much pausing and checking I think Annabelle Langbein uses a Kitchen Aid but of course that is neither here nor there. It is a lot of money to spend and as it will most likely be my last one I need to get it right. Thanks Peachesby Ali W - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
blogs on my ipad - 11 years ago
Any techo's out there able to help please. I have about 40 blogs saved in my favourites. At least half of them have suddenly changed style and gone from the usual stylish headings with photos etc to just a name with a listing of posts? To check out a post I have to click on the title which brings up reader style - instead of scrolling down from post to post.by Ali W - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
What looks better? - 11 years ago
I am icing a wedding cake for a friend and it's been a while since I did one. What is the trend these days - to cover the board with fondant or to leave it with just silver paper? Would love your opinions. Peachesby Ali W - Foodlovers Food Talk
